Apple finally made a phone similar to Samsung’s big screen Galaxys (something Jobs would never have allowed) and Apple is bragging that they have “beaten Samsung”.

Huh?

“Copy Samsung” is more like it.

I’m not a big Apple vs Android type but I just upgraded my phone and almost went with the Droid platform (my wife and I have iPhones but my older kids who pay for their own phones have Droids) but compatibility with iTunes (I’m stuck) Apple TV, and the customer service experience with Apple kept me in an iPhone. However, there was not that much difference in price between the two. IPhone 6 plus and a Samsung something that had a large screen so my middle aged eyes could read.

Apple and Samsung sold the same amount of phones in the last quarter I read somewhere.

Android’s success was built around the promise of being faster, better, and stronger than its rival OS.

I guess I missed that promise. Maybe because it was never made.

How come IPads have no USB or SD slots?

If they included that kind of expandable memory, I would like them more.

Well, I’m glad to hear that they were really intent ... then ... on being slower, worse and weaker than Apple ... because they have SUCCEEDED! ... LOL ...

How come IPads have no USB or SD slots?

They stick to their vision - data lives in the Cloud, not on the device. The tablet is simply a perfectly engineered Cloud access device.

No, I don't like it either - but Android is making moves in the same, NSA-friendly direction.

You would probably love the iPad for its size then. I use the iPad all the time for free Republic. I’ve been known to post a few replies at a red light, too! ... :-)

You posted a link to an article with a premise that is dubious. Please have the courage to defend it rather than engaging in silly fanboi-ism.
BTW, here is the android mission statement:
Android is an open-source software stack created for a wide array of devices with different form factors. The primary purposes of Android are to create an open software platform available for carriers, OEMs, and developers to make their innovative ideas a reality and to introduce a successful, real-world product that improves the mobile experience for users.

We also wanted to make sure there was no central point of failure, where one industry player could restrict or control the innovations of any other. The result is a full, production-quality consumer product with source code open for customization and porting.

Android is a piece of junk, from my hands-on with other such phones I’ve had in my own hands. You defend Android ... the sales and mass-market appeal (and results) from the iOS ecosystem is all that anyone needs to see.

“Copy Samsung” is more like it.

Sauce for the goose if so. Samsung made no bones about copying Apple.

Apple adhered to Steve Jobs' philosophy regarding the size of a smartphone, with ergonomics dictating a need to fit into peoples' hands comfortably. When viewed purely as being primarily a phone, Jobs was correct.

However, preference for larger "phablet" phones that blurred the distinction between phones and tablets, continued to grow primarily in overseas markets, where such devices were often the sole internet access point as well as telecommunications.

With the passage of Jobs, it took some overcoming fears of cannibalizing iPad sales, but eventually they came out with a "phablet" of their own, to great success.

As it appears to have turned out, people were buying Android "phablets" merely because they couldn't get it in an iPhone. Now that they can ... boom.

Most likely because the iOS devices cost hundreds, as opposed to the cost of a decent computer from them, which is over 1,000 to 2,500 at the highest, and it’s really impractical to build a hackintosh, a cheap way to build, as well, plenty of compatibility issues. It was a good venture that they engaged in starting in 2007, and it has paid off to sell phones and ipods, and not just costly computers. It’s part of what got them out of the ditch that earlier management got them into.

Uh, nope:

1.4GHz Mac Mini — 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive, Intel HD Graphics 5000, OS X Yosemite, $499.00

Add your existing keyboard, mouse, and screen. Done.

I’ve got a 40-inch screen (the TV, which is high resolution) and I have a keyboard already (I use it sometimes with my iPad, when typing a long note) ... so that looks like a pretty good deal!
