SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) Those who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender arent universal in their support of their own right to marry, according to a survey from the Pew Research Center.
The survey found that, while support is overwhelming in all segments of the community, seven percent of a nationally-representative sample said they oppose same-sex marriage.

If you broke this up into the L, G, B, T groups...we might find that the seven percent came from one particular group. Course, the media wouldn’t be bright enough to ask the next question.
The 7% probably didn’t understand the question.
Marriage belongs to the straight world and gays should not change it (by a gay person) (2005)

Because they see it as a construct, and dont want to be expected to “settle” with one person.
A lesbian once told me she didn’t want her relationship defined by ‘breeders’. She had no interest in ‘marriage’.
All in all, government needs to get out of marriage.
This used to be the overwhelming consensus, but then the SSM craze stole most of their hearts. Not to actually get SSM’d in most cases (only a minority will), but just to have it exist, out of principle.
Gay really is about pride. That’s why it cannot stop the monkeyshines.
I don’t see any particular reason to suppose they lied or misunderstood. It’s been so thoroughly socialized among them that even living under a rock they would have known.
This is at a political level, of course, and they are talking about the new institution in general, not personally.
At a personal level, if asked if they foresaw or had a desire to enter into such a relationship themselves, the response would be affirmative only in the minority.
There is lot of money at stake in “gay marriage”; if a twenty-something homo dies from AIDS, a “spouse” could conceivably collect SS survivor benefits for decades.
At best I’ll wait to see if it pans out. Money considerations don’t override love considerations for most heteros.
So 7% of 1%.
First, I will emphasize that I said "misunderstood." You added "lied," in a position of emphasis, for whatever reason.
Second, statistics: 7% is an insignificant fraction of any survey population, and it's entirely reasonable to suppose that this many respondents simply weren't paying attention to the question.
At a personal level, if asked if they foresaw or had a desire to enter into such a relationship themselves, the response would be affirmative only in the minority.
With this, I firmly agree.
I guess I could see it plausible that some “gays” hated the idea of even having it as an institution. That would not be a misunderstanding (let’s factor lies out just as a distraction).
Right. “Misunderstanding” would be something like thinking that the question was whether the individual cared to be “married” himself, rather than about the legality of the concept. This kind of thing happens with people taking surveys, even when the question is carefully phrased to elicit the “correct” answer.
Doesn’t it mean 93% favor same sex marriage?? (sarc)
I could see some being copacetic with the idea of “gay marriage” being accommodated as a legally blessed arrangement. That doesn’t mean they can’t pretend, but it does mean that their pretense remains among them, it is not pressed upon larger society.
“Gay” is hardly monolithic. Some attempt to be high minded even in the face of their vice.
I mean, NOT being accommodated.
Yes, there’s a school of thought among “rebel” gays that same sex marriage is not for gay guys. And they’re right.
