Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Friday that ordinary Americans are tired of the heavy hand of Washington and are yearning for elected leaders to take a fresh bottom-up approach to governance that empowers states and localities.
Mr. Walkers message coincided with the news that Mitt Romney was taking a pass on a third White House bid setting the stage for a royal rumble over the fundraisers and high-dollar donors who had been waiting to see what the former Massachusetts governor would do.

To transform America, we really need to transfer power from our nations capital here in Washington back to the states and the cities in this country, where the people, the hard-working people in this country, can actually hold their government accountable, he said.

This week he launched a non-profit group called Our American Revival, which will allow him to raise unlimited amounts of money that will help boost his efforts. And he hired Rick Wiley, former political director of the Republican National Committee, to put together his political operation.

Mr. Walker is viewed as one of the few candidates in the emerging field who could cobble together a coalition of supporters that include members of the GOP establishment as well as grassroots activists something that Mr. Romney struggled to do in the 2012 race.
Mr. Romneys decision not to run, which he announced in a conference call with supporters Friday, underscores the wide-open nature of the 2016 race.

I think we as Republicans have the strongest field of potential presidents, potential candidates, that I have ever seen in my political lifetime, said Fred Malek, chair of the American Action Forum, which hosted the Walker event.

It’s early for Walker and Cruz to make that deal right now. Both have a clear path to the White House. Huck, Santorum, Carson should be encouraged to play nice until they drop out after Iowa, NH and SC. Jindal and maybe Rubio likely WILL play nice as they are running for VEEP or 2024.
It may be early if you look at the calendar, but if you look at the competitive situation, it is not early. The Bush-Romney deal — that’s what I take it to be — has accelerated the timetable.
I agree. It’s not too early to get behind a single conservative candidate. If there is one thing the Democrats know it is that you should ABC: Always Be Campaigning.
Caught a bit of Rush today where he (who doesn’t like to talk about himself) was playing clips of himself being the first to identify Walker as a 2016 hopeful.
Two words best describe Walker: “track record”
Walkers position on Amnesty as far as I know is that he is in favor of it.
No Amnesty is my litmus test for my support, along with getting rid of Obamacare.
Walker has some explaining to do.
I don't think even Romney would consider Bush to be a conservative.
I've chosen to take Romney at his word when he announced today, so I don't think there is a deal between him and Bush.
He let Walker plug his book on-air about a year ago - I was listening - and nobody gets to plug anything on Rush. The only thing Rush allowed Cruz to plug was dontfundit.org.
I have reservations about all of them.
Walker.....amnesty
Cruz ...Harvard (which is what got us into this mess in the first place) I like him, but Harvard grad is a deal breaker for me.
Huckster,...too wishy washy on amnesty
Santorum...two time loser and likely the new Lyndon LaRouche of the right.
Bush...need we say more. (his only redeeming quality is that he’s not a Harvard graduate)
Christie....too New Jersey,
Pataki...too New York
Rick Snyder of Michigan has possibilities, but he isn’t being mentioned so, he’s either not going to run, or keeping his powder dry for later.
Found it Romney; his goal of electing “a conservative leader to become our next president.”
That ain’t Jeb.
I agree completely. I like Walker except for his stand on amnesty.
Walker is pro-amnesty. DEAD to me.
I will NEVER vote for any Bush.
Never.
There’s several RINO-type factors affecting Walker, but for me, I’m looking for someone to fix government and make it work for people without killing us. First of all, cut spending and get rid of departments and programs that are unconstitutional. Next, make definite cuts in department sizes and functions. Someone needs to get rid of the overlaps and money wasted on stupid studies. These are all tall orders and I can’t even focus on immigration and abortion until all of this stuff gets taken care of. Just my opinion. And my support is for Cruz and Palin and any other candidate I might not know about who fits that mold. Thanks for reading this.
I think Rubio could be a strong candidate. He’s not my favorite (Gang of 8 fiasco) but he’s young and charismatic. As we saw with Obama, that kind of superficial stuff matters... a lot unfortunately.
Rubio debating Hillary would be striking contrast.
I think we should wait and see about this so called amnesty nonsense. I don’t believe that he is for amnesty as he said he was for mass deportation. But let’s put that aside for a moment.
He is currently scaring the faculty at University of Wisconsin. That is something that is a very big positive. He is a very strong leader. He has been vetted more than any other politician in history. I think we would be very lucky to have him as President. I do believe he needs to get in front of the American people and explain his immigration plan. And guess what? He will have plenty of opportunity to do so when the debates start. We have 9 of those things to go through. Debates have a way of flushing out the candidates.
BTW, I hope you are doing well. Haven’t spoken to you in a while.
I like Scott Walker.
He’s got good looks but could use a voice coach...
Don’t count Santorum out . Santorum is against any more immigration to the USA legal and illegal. This issue decides all other issues as Mexifornia shows.
I still say Walker is not militant on amnesty. He has been forced to make a couple of statements. We dont have that large an immigration problem here. He identifies well with ‘hard working people of Wisconsin’ and if we can keep bringing pressure he will emphasize border security and American jobs.
How about Palin or Carson?
