Sowell: Random Thoughts
Creators Syndicate ^ | January 27, 2015 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 01/26/2015 1:13:10 PM PST by jazusamo

Random thoughts on the passing scene:

Who says President Obama doesn't promote bipartisanship? His complicity in Iran's moving toward nuclear bombs has alarmed some top Senate Democrats enough to get them to join Republicans in opposition to the Obama administration's potentially suicidal foreign policy.

Before the current measles outbreak, measles was once almost wiped out in the United States. But an article in a medical journal more than a decade ago had many parents afraid to have their children vaccinated, for fear that the vaccine causes autism. After scientific studies refuted that claim, the medical journal repudiated the article, and the doctor who wrote it had his license revoked.

If not a single policeman killed a single black individual anywhere in the United States for this entire year, that would not reduce the number of black homicide victims by one percent. When the mobs of protesters declare "Black lives matter," does that mean ALL black lives matter — or only the less than one percent of black lives lost in conflicts with police?

In politics, never assume that because something is insane, it will not be done. The Holocaust was as insane as it was a moral horror. But it was done. Even after the tide of war turned against Germany and it faced invasion and devastation, Hitler continued to pour scarce resources into the mass killing of people who were no threat.

When someone tries to lay a guilt trip on you for being successful, remember that your guilt is some politician's license to take what you worked for and give it to someone else who is more likely to vote for the politician who plays Santa Claus with your money.

“...When someone tries to lay a guilt trip on you for being successful, remember that your guilt is some politician’s license to take what you worked for and give it to someone else who is more likely to vote for the politician who plays Santa Claus with your money...”

Sowell has a knack for an economy-of-words argument.

I’m not a sucker for these “White guilt” dramas. But my new business is not successful yet so I could not feel guilty about success in that area. But I do feel something of a growing hostility toward government at all levels throwing up roadblocks to success.

Presidents come and go but, Congress has the real imperative in international relationships.

Want that treaty to be signature to your history? Get Congress to go along with it.

In 1998, Congress authorized the Iraq Liberation Act, ***UNANIMOUSLY****

That same congress actually walked Bill Clinton through its imperatives and he then signed it.

Sadaam was going to leave Iraq of his own free will and accord or he would leave in a box.

The Iraq Liberation Act spelled out USA Policy and intention.

3 years later, under a new President and through the lense of 911, we invaded Iraq.

Enough was enough.

I suspect this Congress has a similar authorization bill tee’d up, ready for vote overwhelming passage and requiring the signature of this President, so the next responsible administration can do what is necessary.

That authorization will be signed by this president or the next, period.

Barack does not want his hand on anything that might make him responsible for initiating war,

“Demographic “diversity” is a notion often defended with fervor but seldom with facts.”

That is a great one. Really amazing for concise truth.

At least overtly. Covertly, ask Libya, Egypt, and Syria!

“Some people see discrimination when schools punish black students more often than white students. But schools punish white students more often than Asian students. Lenders turn down black applicants for loans more often than white applicants — but they turn down whites more often than Asians. Most statistics on such things omit Asians, rather than spoil a politically correct story.”

DING DING DING DING DING!!!!

Orientals - the race that doesn’t count.

Orientals matter! (I know; that’s too unPC even for Sowell?)

Does anyone have an accurate count of the countries that we have inserted Special Ops in, bombed, sent drone into national airspace or attacked via the Internet since Obama has been president?

I’m sincerely asking and looking for hard data references.

Does anyone have an accurate count

Most of what you are asking are covert operations.

Many successful operations and failures are classified.

Good luck with your business.

I was just talking with a successful business man who said he wanted to give back to the community. I asked if he had stolen from them? Of course he said no. Did he force someone to buy his product or surface? Of course, no. I then suggested that he may have given people what they wanted as evidenced by his success. If they got what they wanted or needed at a competitive price he had in fact given to the community.

Not too long ago, Safeway was extorted into building affordable housing in order to expand one of their stores. People continually lamented that Safeway took and did not give back. THe idiots had no idea where their food came from and that if it was a small independent store, the prices likely would have been very high indeed.

Despite radical feminist organizations' frequent bursts of outrage, these same radical feminists' response to the mass capture of school girls by Islamic terrorists in Nigeria, and turning those girls into sex slaves, has been strangely muted. Is this because there is no political mileage or lawsuit settlements to be achieved by expressing outrage at such unconscionable raw savagery in Nigeria?
Mostly, it’s because if they made too much fuss all it would do would be to embarrass Obama.

Yet those same RATs will remain in denial about their messiah being on the side of the enemy, along with his incompetence.
