Blizzard 2015 photos: NYC grocery stores cleaned out as Northeast prepares for snow storm

Grocery stores in New York City and around the Northeast are being overrun and cleaned out as customers brace for a "potentially historic" snow storm set to bury the region.

Shoppers tweeted photos from checkout lines at stores throughout the Northeast using the hashtags #blizzardof2015 and #Snowmageddon2015:

..and here's proof! @WholeFoods more like wholezoo. #blizzardof2015 pic.twitter.com/XoixguYZrv — Teresa Priolo (@Fox5Teresa) January 25, 2015

We lost power but got it back in time to have our usual Thanksgiving meal...others in the SAME town were out until Saturday. G-d is good.

Yep, everybody preps. The difference is prepping for what and for how long.

If they have any common sense they would be securing a generator and fuel.

In a Gotham City high rise apartment? Surely, you jest.

I’m sure the few conservatives left up there are man enough to deal a few challenges.

Yes, we are. My only challenge will be the local bobcat if he takes up residence in the barn where the firewood is stored.

You can store the milk and cheese outside in the snow if you lose power!

Did my Whole Foods shopping the other day. I think I'm pretty much set with regard to hummus; kale; quinoa; artisan black corn chips; manuka honey encrusted pinoa nuts; avocade creme fraiche; and Kentish apple and sorrel sorbet.

But do you have any food? I also see you have no beer? Yer gonna starve to death. D - E - D, that's what you'll be.

I’m guessing it won’t be nearly as bad.

That one had 50-foot snowdrifts.

I dunno why people insist on buying bread and milk before a major weather event. Milk is perishable (except for canned milk) and bread is just bad for you.

I bought milk last friday with a use-by-date of 3/05/15. I will use it all up before then. And there is nothing like toasted cinnamon bread covered in honey butter.

“Cleaned out shelves” in the middle of the worst blizzard ever. Only in the US would these pics of “empty shelves” be considered a problem. I can guarantee you, 100% of Venezuelans would DIE to get to these “cleaned out shelves.”

It’s not that difficult. The Chinese restaurants will stay open no matter what happens. And as long as the telephone works, no NYer is going to go hungry.

No, It was pretty rough. On the second day we lost CABLE and Internet. Plus, the cell service at my house is kind of sketchy. WE HAD TO READ BOOKS. Oh the HORROR.

IF you are a young couple with no kids, no pets and you lose power, you go to a hotel in the city and hang out. Party down, screw like rabbits, order room service.

If you are a home owner out in the country with a bunch of animals to take care of you need to have a generator. If you have propane heat, you install a propane generator. They turn themselves on once a week and click on within 30 seconds in the event of a loss of power. That way you are not running to the gas station everyday like me. I can run everything in the house except the clothes dryer and the electric oven.

It’s 63* here in Central Florida. The wife from Pennsylvania, is freezing and turning on the heat. The dog, Norrbottenspets, is laying outside, belly down on the concrete patio to get cooler!. I swear he is dreaming of the Fjords of Norway!

Admittedly, no. Obviously, with more people in the house, toilet paper would go fast.

But I should think that toilet paper would be one thing you would keep a lot of on hand. It’s not perishable like milk or eggs.

I understand that it probably wouldn’t be be practical for most people, but being handy, I would love to have a 1000 watt Honda generator if I lived in a NYC high rise.

I would like to be able to run my refrigerator/freezer periodically, to preserve my foods, and I have 200 watt, and 375 watt electric heaters, battery chargers for my flashlight and lanterns, and DVD/CD players, and of course the laptop.

I even have portable, plug in electric elements for cooking.

A tiny, silent, Honda generator would be great for me and my neighbors.

I have heard that some apartments are about the size of a closet. I used to live in a small apartment — maybe not that small — but I always would find someplace to store things. You would be surprised what you can fit under a bed.
