Keri Lynn Blakinger after 2010 arrest.
Keri Blakinger was arrested in December 2010 in possession of $50,000 worth of heroin.
At age 26, the Cornell class of 2011 senior was suspended from the university and agreed to a plea deal with a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence. 21 months later, she was released, quickly hired at the Ithaca Times, and readmitted to Cornell. Last month, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in English, according to The Ithaca Voice.
In a column for the Washington Post, she attributes her incredible rebound to one thing: White privilege.
In an excerpt from her column, she describes the "systemic racism" she witnessed in the penal system, and society as a whole:
"...Instead of a decade behind bars and a life grasping for the puny opportunities America affords some ex-convicts, I got a second chance... What made my quick rebound possible?
"I am white.
"Second chances don't come easily to people of color in the United States. But when you are white, society offers routes to rebuild your life. When found guilty of a drug crime, white people receive shorter sentences than black people. And even after prison, white men fare better in the job market than black men with identical criminal records.
"It was prison that clued me in to just how much I benefit from systemic racism in our society. Until then, I hadn't thought much about white privilege, which is exactly how privilege worksas a white person, I could ignore it. But sitting behind bars, I saw how privilege touches almost everything, especially the penal system."(continued)

If this is the case, then every non-White who is arrested should immediately claim to be White, so as to benefit from the privilege.
Reality: being non-White confers multiple privileges, so it’s better to claim being non-White.
That’s right; somebody spent some money geting her that deal (and education).
“White privilege” is being thrown out there as a pre-emptive strike to fend off (or stifle to begin with) the increasingly successful legal challenges to race-based affirmative action. You would be shocked at how many working blacks are convinced it is the only reason they are hired (and this is emotionally scarring to them).
As worthwhile jobs become more scarce, companies are finding themselves shedding unproductive tokens (preferred ethnic and females) that had been hired to fend off lawsuits in an attempt to remain competitive. These “white privilege” arguments are to blunt that natural occurence in the free market.
Just another ingrate.
I would think long and hard about it before I would send anyone to an Ivy League college. The misinformation and disinformation taught there far outweigh any advantages.
No, "White Privilege" did not let you rebound from heroin arrest, earn a degree. Affirmative Action did. And you were probably given the degree, you did not earn it.
It wasn’t “white privilege”, it was “female privilege”. Women generally do not get sent to serve hard time, especially if they can argue that some nasty man made them do it.
She was found with 6 ounces of heroin. She was apparently high at the time. It looks more like she was an addict who was tasked with holding the drugs and passing them on to a buyer, than her being a drug queen.
“Founded in 1865 by renowned Senator Ezra Cornell, Cornell University has 20,000 students spread across 14 colleges in the state of New York. It charges students around $40,000 per year to attend.” (N.B.: maybe she wanted the money for graduate school. /sarc)
I truly doubt that she was paying her way through Cornell by selling heroin. And she was a senior, which meant she already had an outlay of $160,000 for her education. And she was already using heroin when she *entered* Cornell.
More details:
“The daughter of a Harvard-educated lawyer, Blakinger was a straight-A student in a private high school who competed at U.S. Figure Skating Nationals.”
“Blakinger writes that she was molested when she was nine and struggled with depression and eating disorders as a young teenager.”
“When my need for rebellion joined forces with my existing tendency toward self-destruction, ultimately I turned to a tragically common solution heroin,” she wrote.
Heroin was just one manifestation of her drug use. Her book describes her kitchen at one point during her addiction: The freezer is stocked with LSD, DMT and other hallucinogens; the microwave is used only for cooking ketamine; all the drinks in the refrigerator are laced; the plates are only used for chopping up and snorting cocaine; the vegetable drawer is filled with marijuana the only thing that gets cooked in the stove is crack the forks have simply begun to migrate after they melted the last time you ate acid, she writes.
Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson told The Ithaca Journal that Blakinger was the “Queenpin” of heroin dealing in Collegetown, and Blakinger does not deny the charge.
Yeah, white privilege.
White privilege did not manage to fix the brain damage caused by the drugs. Poor wigger.
It was her gender privilege. Kids can’t keep track of this stuff.
***”Second chances don’t come easily to people of color in the United States***
“PAGING ANGELA DAVIS! PAGING ANGELA DAVIS!”
“CALL F-O-O-R ANG-ELA DA-VI-S!”
Strange. “White Privilege” can be said with no offense - thanks to our liberal politically correct society. If Blakinger is Jewish (I have no idea) and someone were to say she got off so lightly because of “Jewish Privilege” would that be offensive? If so, why?
You’re not kidding! Sheesh.
