Because of his criminal past, Gipson was prohibited from gun ownership under both federal and Nevada state law. However, he had no problem purchasing a .25 caliber handgun from a friend for $50 in cash and $50 in marijuana. He then used the handgun to murder Lavoll. Because Nevada does not require background checks for this type of private gun sale, Gipsons friend had no obligation to conduct a background check to ensure that Gipson was eligible to possess a firearm.

Riiiiight. Because we all know someone willing to trade a .22 for a bag of illegal dope would certainly perform a background check if it was required by law.
If he knifed her to Death, they wouldn’t have a thing to say.
So he ignores the laws concerning murder, marijuana possession, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, but if there was a background check law that one would get his attention.
This crime is an example of why background checks are stupid and useless.
So I am supposed to believe that a guy who would trade a gun to a known felon (already a crime) for an illegal substance (also a crime) would have made sure to run a background check on Gipson had that been the law.
Every time I wonder how these gun control scum don’t get laughed out of the room I remember George Carlin. I think about the intelligence of the “average person” and then remember that half the country is even dumber than that.
I’m not the first to post the obvious - a man who would trade a gun for illegal drugs doesn’t care if transferring the gun is legal. What amazes me is that liberals can pretend they don’t see that obvious flaw with gun laws achieving their claimed goals.
LOL! Well, in addition to the UBC initiative coming in ‘16, there is also an intiative that’ll be on the ballot to “Tax and Regulate” MJ in Nevada. What they didn’t bother to tell the IPOS that signed the petition was that this basically means recreational legalization. The gun one was sold to the IPOS as “closing the gun show loophole, stops bad guys from ever getting a gun and ending domestic violence once and for all”. And the IPOS signed away.
There is NO SUCH THING as GUN VIOLENCE!!!
There is poeple violence with anything they can pick up and use against another person..............
They're not useless to a police state.
“They’re not useless to a police state.”
If you make note of the fact that National Instant Check had no measurable effect on crime rates when it was implemented, and the fact that statistically most criminals acquire their guns through some transaction similar to this it leads you to ask “so what good are backgrounds checks? Why is the government so insistent on them? If it’s a “background check” why does the form include information identifying the gun involved? How does the serial number of the gun affect whether you are allowed to buy it? If it’s a background check, how come they do it for every purchase instead of doing it once, giving you are card that says “I can buy guns” and take your card away in the event that you become disqualified? Why does the ATF make copies of so many transfers when they are by law not allowed to make a database?” Background checks are backdoor registration, period, end of story. And, as proven in Canada, Germany, New York City, and Australia, registration leads to confiscation.
Also, if the guy who sold him the gun had any reason to believe that he was a felon (paying in marijuana is sometime a tip off) then he was already committing a crime. You don’t need a background check to know this guy can’t have a gun.
Concur.
But it is a great smokescreen to implement National Gun Registration, which is their main goal.
“But it is a great smokescreen to implement National Gun Registration, which is their main goal.”
Gun confiscation is their main goal, gun registration is just the necessary stepping stone.
Correct.
EXACTLY! He is a criminal sociopath, who has complete CONTEMPT for the law! “One more law” is NOT going to stop such a person! Why do these leftists have such a hard time with this concept???
Friend knowingly sold a gun to a felon (a felony) and traded for illegal drugs.
He proved he was willing to break the law, yet morons think a 3rd violation would have stopped him.
ergo=liblogic. Or just flat out lies which we know is the case. And the IPOS gobble it up like a hot fudge sunday.
Stupids laws create disrespect for the law. Unconstitutional laws create disrespect for the law. Illegal executive memos create disrespect for the law.
For decades, the American Citizen has lived with the situation, that they break numerous laws everyday without even knowing it. That creates disrespect for the law.
All of these things done by liberals create lawlessness, chaos and lead to violence. They are, the media is too stupid to realize this. So, both advocate even more stupid, illegal and unconstitutional laws to "solve" problems.
This comment by the progressive center for progressive American progress is laugh out loud funny.
