France Was Attacked by Islamic Fundamentalism
“To misname things is to add to the world’s unhappiness.” Whether or not Albert Camus really did utter these words, they are an astonishingly apt description of the situation in which the French government now finds itself. Indeed, the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius no longer even dares pronounce the real name of things.
Mr. Fabius will not describe as “Islamists” the terrorists who on Wednesday, Jan. 7, walked into the offices of the newspaper Charlie Hebdo, right in the heart of Paris. Nor will he use “Islamic State” to describe the radical Sunni group that now controls territory in Syria and Iraq. No reference can be made to “Islamic fundamentalism,” for fear that Islam and Islamism might get conflated. The terms “Daesh” and “Daesh cutthroats” are to be favored instead, even though in Arabic “Daesh” means the very thing to be hidden: “Islamic State.”
Let us call things by their rightful names, since the French government seems reluctant to do so. France, land of human rights and freedoms, was attacked on its own soil by a totalitarian ideology: Islamic fundamentalism. It is only by refusing to be in denial, by looking the enemy in the eye, that one can avoid conflating issues. Muslims themselves need to hear this message. They need the distinction between Islamist terrorism and their faith to be made clearly.
Yet this distinction can only be made if one is willing to identify the threat. It does our Muslim compatriots no favors to fuel suspicions and leave things unspoken. Islamist terrorism is a cancer on Islam, and Muslims themselves must fight it at our side.

Call it exactly what it is:
ISLAM. Not extreme, not radical, not fundamentalist.
Read the quran - that’s exactly what the terrorists are following. Therefore, it’s ISLAM.
I’m not sure which is the more surprising—that the New York Times would run what amounts to a guest editorial by Marine Le Pen, or that Marine Le Pen should claim that “to call this threat by its name” is to call it Islamic terrorism as opposed to real Islam.
No, sorry, Mohammed, the Koran, Allah, and Islam itself all call for this kind of terrorism against all those who are not professed Muslims. This is what Muslims do, and have done for many, many centuries of conquest, killing, rape, and enslavement.
Yep. Even if you overlook the slaughter and enslavement of infidels and women, child rape and the pillaging thingy it’s still not a religion of peace.
It is important to name things, especially threats, exactly what they are.
If you cannot say the name of your enemy, then you cannot defeat your enemy.
The importance of naming your enemy is shown by the action of those who are supporting our enemies by purposely not naming this enemy.
And there is one thing that we know about those supporting our enemies, and it stands out above all else that is known about them.
They are liars.

Agree with her, but since we're calling things by their rightful names, can we drop this fiction?
French Socialists hate Marion Marechal-Le Pen as much as American Socialist Liberals hate Sarah Palin. She must be doing something very right.
Sorry, there is no distinction.
She right on Islam but her party is
1)Anti-semitic (but Marine is trying to run away hard from her father on that)
2)Not conservative on economics, it’s moved further left since she’s taken over from daddy
The same could be said of evil. If you can not name evil, or identify evil then you will not defeat it, or stop it.
There is more involved spiritually here, but I am rather ignorant on the subject and going on memory of distant conversations.
I am shocked that the New York Times allowed this in their pages. They are a dedicated enemy of civilization and good.
