DALLAS (Reuters) - Membership in the Boy Scouts of America took a steeper tumble during 2014, the first year under a policy that allows openly gay youth to participate, than in recent years of a decade-long decline.
About 2.4 million youth participated in the nearly 105-year-old Texas-based scouting program, representing a 7.4 percent decline over 2013 enrollment of 2.6 million youth, Boy Scout officials said in a statement on Friday.
Enrollment declined by about 6 percent in 2013. BSA officials said that decreasing participation is a trend that most youth organizations are facing.
"There are many factors that go into a family's decision to join and participate in Scouting. This includes, but is not limited to, the limited amount of discretionary time of parents and kids," the BSA statement said.
The number of adult volunteers dropped to 981,000 in 2014, down from slightly over 1 million 2013.
The new membership policy that allowed gay youth in the organization for the first time split the organization between those who embraced the non-discriminatory change and conservatives who stood by traditional values. Trail Life USA was founded last year as a breakaway organization based on Christian standards.
In an effort to increase membership, the Boy Scouts introduced new technology programs and more outdoor activities. Also, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates became national president and a new "High Adventure Base" opened in West Virginia last year.

“Reverent” that too...so much of the Scout Law and also the Oath is antiquated in the eyes of so many people.
They listened to the complaints from people who largely have no interest in adding members to the BSA. How many of the LGBTs would be interested either in joining or having their kids in there? Not very many, and this is essentially a fraction of 2 percent of the general population. It’s a dead end.
And then also, the feminization of males continues. All the muslims have to do is wait. In twenty years at the longest, there will be no men to oppose them here. In reality, I would say under 10 but I said twenty to be on the safe side.
That is the reason for the sexualization of children-—to warp all perceptions of others and women/men and relationship and destroy moral formation which requires non-sexualization in childhood.
They are forced to “teach” kids about perverted acts when they promote “homosexual” marriage or civil unions-—and that will normalize the vile behavior in children. (It is flipping our ethics system of 2000 years to the muslim, Satanic, pagan ethic system).
Worldview is learned, and the homosexuals want boys to be groomed and trained to “see” others in sick warped ways and not in a Christian way.
The Cultural Marxists knew to destroy Western Civ. all they have to do is destroy Traditions (Natural Family) and Christian Ethics. Without Virtue (and sodomy is a Vice), there is no civil society. Vice breeds vice.
Let it either go back to God or wither on the vine.
They could then call the revamped organization "Games for Girly Boys" /s
...it kills me to turn them away when they are selling popcorn and cookies, but I just tell them I don’t support their group.
Scouts were a blast when I was a kid. Early 80s. Learned fishing, hunting, camping, archery, marksmanship (with REAL rifles), survival. All the fun outdoors stuff. I imagine all that is long gone in the scouts.
I don’t these kids are too young to figure out who’s screwing them. Their chance to get even is coming.
Let the homos have the Boy Scouts! Maybe the day will come that an organization will form for real boys.

It’s a shame what has happened to BSA because of the intolerant thugs on the left.
I use to love Girl Scout cookies and supported every cookie drive they had. That all came to an abrupt end when the organization was taken over by radical lesbians. When I am asked if I want to buy a box of cookies I politely say no then tell the mother with her young daughter I don’t support Planned Parenthood.
My kids are not in scouts. First of all they are too busy with Lacrosse, wrestling, and diving to attend boy scouts. Then the whole gay thing....however, they were not in scouts even before the ban was lifted. My youngest son was in it a year about five years ago. I personally was in scouts for four years.
BSA will degenerate to a homosexual hook-up agency vs. camping and learning other skills - they might keep some of the knots though.
I am 32 and agree with you, and I was a Scout growing up too. But those are just memories now.
Yeah, and they were good ones at that, a nice opportunity for me to enjoy everything from basic scuba diving to canoeing, or rather partially swimming the canoe across Lake Cayuga in Northern NY. It was a nice place to get to enjoy all that and wouldn’t have been as easy much anywhere else. Too bad most charters took the wrong option of appeasement to try and get money.
