Justin Moore wanted to play high school football after his sophomore year at Apex High two years ago, but his parents preferred that he play basketball.
His father, Wes Moore, thought the risk of injury was too high to allow the 5-foot-8, 185-pound rising junior to play football for the first time.
But last fall, Justin joined the Apex High football team and loved it.
There has been nothing like it in my life, Justin Moore said. To run out on the field with your teammates under the lights and the crowd cheering and making noise. It was amazing.

Interesting
The discipline my youngest son learned was incredible.
Studies would almost certainly also show that participation in high school football turns out young men with a higher degree of motivation, character, responsibility, leadership, and preparation for the challenges of life.
Everything has its risks. Life demands we calculate those risks. IMO, the potential benefit is worth it for many, but maybe not all. Each has to weigh those risks.
It is certainly not another area for more unconstitutional government meddling. It is a matter of the freedom for the individual to choose.
Football is fun.....it is also character building. I wonder if that is part of the Libs mantra ‘football is too dangerous’. Unnecessary roughness isn’t good, but that should be penalized by the officials. Hopefully.

So that horrific injury that the Louisville player suffered 2 years ago means nothing?
It made a 180 degree change in my sons attitude. He was starting to run with the wrong crowd until the football coach got ahold of him.
Pussifacation on hold...
LOL, I watched the post game group grief therapy on C-Span last night and enjoyed it very much. The libs were in mourning and the mantra was that Ohio was unusually "physical" throughout the game. Yeah..............Go Bucks!
I attended a VERY small high school, with the consequence that I got to play varsity football, where I wouldn’t have even made the JV squad at any other school. At 5’9” and 104 pounds, I took some monster hits, and got my bell rung so hard once that I thought my head was coming loose. For all that, though, I survived.
My son had not said anything about college and I asked him if he wanted to play when he went to college and he turned to me and said, "Yes, I do."
He got into a 2D school as a preferred walk-on, but suffered a shoulder injury that knocked the want to play out of him. However, all of the good habits he learned saw him through a four-year degree.
My favorite memories of all my kids schooling was going to watch them play their sports, and especially Friday night.
Tough stuff, but I can honestly that it was a privilege (and a benefit) for me just to have participated, and I’m sure you feel the same!
And the jocks get all the girls - the most important thing when I was in high school. Of course, I ran with the nerds not the cheerleaders...
High school sports is second only to basic training in earned self esteem. Besides, high school football is fun, more so I’d guess in a small school like I attended. Life is dangerous, you can’t just hide under a rock.
