but it is “for the children”.

Maybe if some schools spent more time on actually teaching individuals how to function in our society we would not need more “free” schooling.

Next up, gee, if they are going to free school, how will they support themselves, obviously, a government stipend.

It will end up being a ‘remedial’ HS for all the half-wits who didn’t bother to apply themselves IN High School and so they will go to ‘college’ for free (read: at tax payer expense).

When/IF they actually complete this ‘community college’ curriculum, they will have what THEY call a ‘degree’...but in actual fact, it will only be the watered down and BS facsimile of a real HS diploma, that they COULD HAVE earned earlier, if they had only bothered to pay attention in class and study while they were IN High School.

BTW-they’ll probably study stuff like ‘women’s studies’, ‘public administration’, and ‘urban studies ’etc. and will be virtually UNEMPLOYABLE, anyway!

M O R E taxpayer revenue will be squandered on the people who WILL NOT apply themselves in High School, WHEN AND WHREE the education they constantly claim is being denied to them IS ACTUALLY available … just like it’s provided to everyone ELSE who goes to HS and actually STUDIES and graduates to earn a genuine HS diploma!

People who actually strive in HS, get their tickets punched and go ahead to college or into the work force just as planned … while THESE losers cannot seem to benefit from the exact same education when it’s available in HS! Go figure!

Until all that free money jacks the price like student loans did to colleges: 900% increase in just a few years.

The reality is the majority of revenue for 4 Year Universities are the undergraduate classes everyone is required to take.

Just wait until the Intellectuals that run those institutions realize Nero just gored their Ox.

This “debate” is going to be fun to watch.

Our local 2-year college (with four years programs) has a bunch of students who only attend classes until their first check comes in - then they drop out and continue to collect their school money. They repeat this every six months, making it form of income producing financial aid. The faculty is complicit by not failing these dropouts, ensuring they continue to collect the federal dollars on a per seat basis. The true students are happy when the malcontents leave because the classrooms return to learning and their is adequate parking.

Students are dangled easy credit terms, with no interest and no principal due before graduation. Parents often co-sign these huge loans. Sometimes the signers aren't even shown a basic amortization schedule (as required for, say, a home mortage loan).

Title IV rules require any monies in excess of tuition + college costs to be given directly to the student within 3 business days. Colleges encourage over-applying and the kids think it's free money and blow it all.

Why stop at 2 years?

The next step is logically to fund years 3 and 4 in a few years.

Then we will have to forgive $1 trillion in student loans so everyone can get a fresh financial start.

This way everyone will have great jobs.

Except there are no great jobs left for that many people.

And why stop there?

Why not a free brand new car when you graduate so you can get to work?

And a new house—after all you have to have somewhere to live!

Too expensive—Janet Yellen says we can just keep printing money. The currency has not failed yet, so why would it ever fail?

Folks, if you want to know how far we have fallen, gander at the comments on Facebook where this article has been reposted.

The Republic is on mortal danger.

The subsidized amount always becomes the “new zero”.

It’s just another “sounds good, feels good” idea that he pulled out of his butt specifically for the State of the Union. Six months from now we’ll never hear of it.

Exactly - the demand for the community colleges will skyrocket, initially exceeding the demand. In order to meet the demand, there will be expansion or new colleges - voila, higher cost. Basic economics seems to elude government employees.

I think all of these things are part of a ploy for eventual full government takeover of certain services. Take an industry, drive up the demand by making it “free” (aka making others pay for it), then complain that the prices are out of control as the “profit motive” of the private suppliers is unfair. The American people no longer have basic economic education and won’t be able to understand what is happening and will agree with the government takeover plan.

Obama keeps using the word “Free”, unfortunately, it doesn’t mean what he thinks it means!

“Free” to the taker means, I don’t have to pay. “Free” when used in conjunction with the government means - EVERY SINGLE TAXPAYER PAYS!!

Instead of wasting tax dollars on people who have NOTHING coming to them, because they are CRIMINALS in the first place for violating our borders, why can’t we get our roads and bridges fixed? There is a serious serious neglect of our infrastructure. Many of the roads, exits, and highways in and around NYC are in such poor repair that cars cannot even begin to approach the speed limits. Driving up other roads is like driving over a washboard. I’m sure that many cars sustain damage from having to be driven over such poor roads.
