Blockbuster Story. Spiked!
PJ Media ^ | 1-6-15 | Michael Ledeen

I had lunch yesterday with three gentlemen who are very well read, who follow the news attentively, and who would shudder to think they are victims of ideological censorship. Yet not one of them — and the trio includes a very famous former reporter (a first-class reporter at that) for one of the country’s top newspapers — had heard a word about Egyptian President Sisi’s remarkable New Year’s Day speech, in which he called upon Muslim leaders and scholars to carry out a “religious revolution.”

All three watch TV news ... so they were surprised that they hadn’t heard about it. They agreed that the story warranted banner headlines. World-wide.

-excerpt-

It’s a huge story. And it’s been spiked, at least for the moment.

Sisi was speaking in Cairo’s most famous theological center, and his audience included the country’s leading imams. He told them that the dominant thinking of virtually all authoritative Islamic religious leaders had turned the entire world against them:

The corpus of texts and ideas that we have made sacred over the years, to the point that departing from them has become almost impossible, is antagonizing the entire world. You cannot feel it if you remain trapped within this mindset. You must step outside yourselves and reflect on it from a more enlightened perspective.

-excerpt- He is telling the imams that they lack enlightenment, they are “trapped” in a mindset of their own creation — one that enforces a fundamentalist reading of Islamic law (sharia) and leads to violent jihad. ... he tells them they’ve got to change their thinking, and therefore, their actions. Enough, already:

we are in need of a religious revolution. You, imams, are responsible before Allah. The entire world, I say it again, the entire world is waiting for your next move…

God protect Sisi. We need men like him brave enough to attempt the transition to modernism that Islam requires.

I had read that somewhere at the time the speech was given (maybe the BBC).

But you’re right - it wasn’t given much play in World News.

I read it on the internet, during the first Iraq war I realized I couldn’t get accurate information from television and I started reading the other countries’ newspapers, lots of them to get a fuller picture.

An excerpt was printed on today’s Wall Street Journal op-ed page, but that isn’t the same as being the subject of MSM fawning.

To modernize Islam the Koran must be destroyed. Can you see that happening? I can’t.

Reformation & modernism is the solution, as Dr Jasser has been saying for a number of years.

I wonder how much Koran text would be left if you edited out all the stuff calling for death to infidels.

This account is WAY understated and a little confusing...because it is really two stories.

1. that the president of Egypt made the comments at all, and
2. that the liberal media does not report it. “Liberal” in this context is extremely important to note.

“All three watch TV news and read the leading dailies, so they were surprised that they hadn’t heard about it. They agreed that the story warranted banner headlines. World-wide.”

The first sentence is the key. They obviously watch and read liberal media outlets. Fox and Rush have discussed the details of this declaration enough for me to see it’s importance. Liberal media does not want to report it for the simple reason President Sisi is telling fellow Muslims that they are responsible for what is going to happen to Muslims worldwide if they do not reign in their runaway religion. To suggest that Islam is not a perfect religion and the source of Muslim terrorism (rather than the U.S. and the rest of the western world) simply will not be tolerated by libtard journalists. When Sisi talks about Muslim Imans not being able to step outside their myopic worlds to understand what’s going on equally applies to the liberal media.

The imam’s next move will be to assassinate Egyptian President Sisi.

Sorry, my bad.
Which “country’s top newspapers” was that again? I didn’t quite catch it in the article.

Maybe Sisi can become the Ataturk of Egypt. How did Sisi ever get in charge of their Armed forces? Was Morsi crazy?

I read it on the internet, during the first Iraq war I realized I couldn’t get accurate information from television and I started reading the other countries’ newspapers, lots of them to get a fuller picture.

I did the same thing. Eventually settled on The Times o India and a Singapore paper for the most reliable and complete coverage of Iraq.

U.S. news coverage was disgraceful -- from slanted to outright lies. Initially, the "embeds" were OK -- but they were exposed to only a microcosm of the war. Eventually, they started relating to the troops they were embedded with, became biased in their favor and, of course, the idea was kiboshed.
