There is no fix it all depends on supply and demand. Right now we are over supplied but that will change once supplies have been consumed. There’s also several big pipelines fixing to fire up and it’s going to take a few million barrels just to fill them before they can start delivering.
Maids and truck drivers? You really have no idea just how many people this impacts.
patronage... people still use that word and not be referring to government favors....
Pappy's ....Monahan, Texas
“Unless you already understand it, and want all Americans to pay through the nose for gasoline and heating oil so that your favored industry may continue a non-stop boom.”
I pay the same price for gas as everybody else does and as far as heating oil well that’s a seasonal thing just like electricity here in the southern and southwest states. We get a break during the winter but our long hot summers keep the AC running strong and our electric bills will more than triple.
The US government should be buying all the excess for the strategic reserve.
High enough that people appreciate having maid service?
Hahaha!
Maybe you don't realize where all those "boom" prices go (down by two thirds from the last boom high at $147/bbl).
Why, they go to build energy infrastructure, drill wells, build location housing, houses, buy pickups, cars, and heavy trucks and equipment.
That has put a lot of people to work, too.
Spending an extra 20 bucks a week on Chinese made stuff at Walmart doesn't do much for American Industry, but the oil patch does.
Oh the joys of Chinese drill pipe. I have never heard of so many rigs twisted off and fishing at once...Cheaper isn't even a break-even proposition sometimes.
How much tax payer money do you want spent expanding the SPR?
How many months of OPEC imports do you think is smart investment for the US tax payers?
I think it is large enough. It is nearly full now.
I have not been out there since the summer of 2013 after building the crude by rail terminal on FM 1219 near Wink. I miss it. That's probably the "Railroad PTSD" sayin so, though.
Related to the thread and Pappy's, on one of my stays out there I recall seeing the sign out front of the Monahans McDonald's (right next door to Pappy's) that they were hiring for all positions... starting wage $14/hr. I know somewhere I have a photo I took of the Dominos Pizza in Hobbs looking for delivery drivers for $16/hr... and the Big Cheese Pizza 14-16/hr.
Here... I just pulled the photos off my work computer to post. Click photo for big ones.
I would say at this price buy as much as possible. Lease tank space if necessary. Suck the mid east dry.
If the latter, you're just venting, like anyone else whose business is at a low point of the cycle, and that's understandable - I won't argue with you.
If the former, we have a serious disagreement, and I would contend you are in need of some basic economics education.
What do you think tank space per month per barrel cost?
USe Yucca Mtn. It could hold a lot.
Exactly right. When oil was at $109, I did not begrudge the drillers a penny of what they were making. When it's at $50, I don't expect them to come crying for protection, either.
I prefer not to needlessly throw away tax payer money.
The government doesn’t need conservatives trying to spend money.
Where on this thread do you see any requests for government protection of the oil industry?
Like I said in post 33, if people are just venting ‘cos they are at a low point in the business cycle, I can take that in good faith. It’s only when they start trying to make their problem my problem that I get testy. Sorry if I was not clear about that.
Buying a tangible asset at rock bottom prices is not wasting money.
