An Albuquerque police officer was shot and injured while making a traffic stop in northeast Albuquerque early Saturday morning, according to a police department spokesman.
The officer was struck twice and is expected to survive, officer Tanner Tixier said.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
The officer pulled over a man suspected of driving drunk at San Mateo Boulevard and San Mateo Lane near Del Norte High School around 2:30 a.m. As the officer was approaching the vehicle, the man fired shots at the officer, Albuquerque Police Department Chief Gorden Eden said.
“The driver fired at the officer several times, striking the officer at least twice,” Eden said. “The officer went to the ground and was able to fire at the vehicle.”
It was unknown if the suspect was shot.
Eden said the officer is a 30-year veteran of the police department. He is in stable condition at University of New Mexico Hospital, and police are waiting to inform his extended family members before identifying him. Police said at about 9 a.m. that he was in surgery.
The suspect ran north after the shooting. Police are searching for a clean-shaven, white or light-skinned Hispanic man, about 6-feet tall, who was wearing a dark jacket, dark jeans and a brown baseball cap.

Late afternoon news is that the officer is out of surgery and doing well. The officer was wearing a lapel camera and the incident is being reviewed for help in identifying the shooter.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the demonstrations and outpouring of support for the officer’s family from big-time media personalities and politicos.
Yeah, I know he didn’t die, but the INTENT was to kill him.
If the officer hadn’t been oppressing the motorist, he wouldn’t have gotten shot. /S

Interesting as to how these assaults seem to be spreading. Soon Mexicans will add their “two bits” to the ongoing black shootings of policemen. It will be interesting to see if the rate of assaults on police officers increases. Somehow these Third World types are sensing the sickness of Western Man and his inability to resist their ongoing conquest. Once the perception of Western weakness becomes widespread KNOWLEDGE among the Third World types “God Help Us!”

Where have you been? This has been well known for some time and I don’t see it changing until we get another Ronald Reagan type POTUS.
Your response would be the proper response. From what I have seen and heard Western man is so badly fractured into little ineffective groups that they are incapable of responding. You may fight as would I but don’t expect much support.
We are being defeated, come to California. California is now Mexico Del Norte and they are seizing our property at an enormous rate. Soon the Mexican flag will be flying over our public buildings. White America has but one philosophy; eating, drinking, drugging, copulating, evacuating the bowels, snoring and free tickets to “The Games.” That widespread philosophy is why we are losing.
No so called President is going to save us. Salvation comes from a resurgence of confidence among Westerners, and abandonment of the current popular culture. An attack upon one of us is an attack against all would be a good philosophy to start with.
