“...searching for his Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handgun...”
-
I don’t know about Florida, or Maryland, but here in Georgia
I have a “weapons carry permit”, but it is not linked to any particular weapon.

They may not have been looking for the Kel-Tec specifically, they were looking for *any* weapon since he has a CCW in another state.

From the article:
“...The officers were searching for Mr. Filippidis‘
Florida-licensed, palm-size Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handgun...”
That IS what the article says.

Remember: Journalist accuracy with firearms matters is... suspect.

OK.
You want me to believe the journalist just made up
“palm-size Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handgun”
out of thin air.
Got it.
Thanks.

Beginning to look like a CCW is a mixed blessing when you travel. I hate the FedGov., but since the 2A is a bedrock liberty issue, maybe it’s time for an all encompassing federal law that preempts all State CCW laws and institutes a National Right to Carry Statute that places restraints on what States can do to restrict the carrying of weapons while traveling.

So . . . simply being from a state that adopts the Second Amendment as written is probable cause that you have committed a crime, and that you are subject to search?

Or in a way worse: Perhaps Just-Us Holder has illegally pooled gun-owner records from all 50 states and distributed the database to regimes like MD and NY that don't recognize the 2A. And therefore, if you're a known gun owner, that's probable cause that you're doing something illegal with it.

I’ve got mixed emotions about that.
I believe the bill of rights placed restrictions on the feds
and the ugly 14th amendment “incorporated” them unto the states.

I wonder to myself; to myself, I wonder...
How come South Carolina recognizes my Georgia driver’s license
but they don’t recognize my Georgia concealed carry permit?
Why is that, I wonder to myself.

I have heard that when a cop runs a license plate number, the screen will tell them if the vehicle’s owner has a concealed carry permit.

1. Kel-Tec does not make any Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handguns. They *do* make .380 ACP handguns, but there’s a big difference between .38 Special and .380 ACP. The journalist didn’t make it.
2. The journalist was probably told that the man being persecuted by MD police had a CCW and had a Kel-Tec. He then *assumed* the MD cops were looking specifically for that Kel-Tec when there’s no way for those officers to know what weapon he carries - Florida does not register guns nor are their CCW records linked to any specific firearm. The latter is an NYC specific thing.

This is correct in Texas and a number of other states I am familiar with.

CCW is a great thing, but once you fill out ANY government forms, you’re on their radar.
