Pakistani officials are furious with Showtime after watching the fourth season of its hit show “Homeland, which they say portrays their country as an ugly, ignorant, terror-plagued “hellhole.”

“Our culture embraces Western society. Pakistan believes in the democratic system of voting in our presidents.“Pakistanis never embraced the dictators who, in the past, ruled the country because they took over the presidency through violent means.

LOL. The only thing 'Homeland' nailed was the reality of Pakistan. A 3rd world hell hole that has supported terrorists for decades.

Claire Danes is depicted as the worst Station Chief in the history of the CIA. Every source she developed got killed and her bungling got the US Embassy overthrown and it's CIA component slaughtered, not to mention almost going to war with Pakistan.

The CIA has a habit of hiring silver spoons with high opinions of themselves for embassy appointments. This I know for a fact; I’ll just leave it there...

Being civilized is a package deal founded on a tradition of rational thought, the rule of law and sound morality.

Pakistan’s relationship with lawless Taliban is downright irrational and immoral.

If Pakistan wants to join the modern world, let them destroy Taliban and erase Taliban mentality. The fact that this would be cost them a small civil war exactly proves my point. The primary principle of the rule of law is that there can only be one sovereign.

Ugly? Check.
Ignorant? Check.
Terror-plagued? Check.
Hellhole? Check.

So what’s the problem? Did they leave out barbaric, backward, anarchic, and muslim? That’s because those are redundant.

“....an ugly, ignorant, terror-plagued hellhole...”

Pakistan has a right to be angry; at such an incomplete description of their nation. The writer left out bigotted, decadent, and Godless!

The CIA has a habit of hiring silver spoons with high opinions of themselves for embassy appointments. This I know for a fact; I’ll just leave it there...

Case in point (I read this article earlier this morning):

Vinyl Diplomacy: How The US Ambassador Is Using Indie Music To Get Ahead

Matthew Barzun is hosting gigs at his official residence – in between dealing with CIA reports, John Kerry and the “special relationship”. BuzzFeed News went record shopping with him.

posted on Dec. 23, 2014, at 7:02 a.m.

...Isn’t it weird that this supposedly underdog, anti-establishment music is now the soundtrack of the guys in charge?

“No…” Barzun replies, a bit baffled.

He seems shocked when I suggest that a few years ago, bands would have rather been seen dead than associating with the US Embassy. “Oh, really?”

Barzun represents a superpower with interests across the world. He went to Harvard, before becoming very wealthy thanks to his role in the site CNet; his wife is an heir to the Jack Daniel’s whiskey fortune. He got into diplomacy as a result of his extensive fundraising for Barack Obama, serving first in Sweden and then heading to London.

You won’t hear him say a bad word about the US president (“incredibly smart, principled, and pragmatic. Humble, learns from his mistakes, moves on”), and he’s happy to defend the US security services, despite the recent US Senate report into the use of torture by the CIA during the “war on terror”. In Barzun’s mind, this is “history, from 10 years ago,” and it’s time to move on...

He won’t get involved in the 2016 US presidential race, but if all goes to plan, he’ll step down as US ambassador shortly after the election and return home to Louisville, Kentucky. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him make a move into politics once he’s allowed to drop the diplomatic language and engage in politics once more: “I will go back to Kentucky, a city that we love, and I will try to get resettled there and help in any way we can...”

"Pakistanis never embraced the dictators who, in the past, ruled the country because they took over the presidency through violent means."
Nope, they embraced the jihadists that caused the military takeovers in the first place. They gunned down a presidential candidate because she was a woman. They burn embassies, destroy churches, kill and arrest and try and imprison Christians...

"The primary principle of the rule of law is that there can only be one sovereign."

Here in the US we are headed towards a dual law system.

The historical, "civilized", logical legal system and the new Emotional (illogical, Social) Justice System.

Your gov'ts will decide which system is to be applied to you.

From what I’ve seen the Feds would rather hire someone from big money and privileged lifestyles with a college degree and plenty of narcissism and arrogance than hire someone who worked through the ranks from the lower classes to get there. That doesn’t apply to the military classes though. They need the muscle especially if it’s from the other side of the tracks. Just my opinion and experience...

To be fair, members of communities, including nations, where life is getting worse, where children don’t have the chances that their parents had and grandchildren have no chance at all RARELY blame themselves.

In 1948, Pakistan and India started on a more-or-less equal footing. Look at them now.

Whether in the micro (Ferguson) sense, or the macro (Pakistan) sense, the participants in social decline will want to blame somebody.

Obama said he watches Homeland. I saw Season One and it was decent. I never saw it after that because I heard the plots got too far out.
