Apple And Samsung: Here’s What Happens When The Money Begins To Run Out
PixoBebo ^ | Friday, December 26, 2014 | Kate MacKenzie

You knew this had to happen. While Samsung and other Android smartphone vendors bask in the glory of marketshare vs. Apple’s iPhone and iPad, it’s Apple that walks away with most of the profits. Without profits, tech companies have to tighten their belts, cut back on R&D (research and development), close stores, and reduce the product line.

Guess which high profile tech company is doing all that?

If you guessed Apple, you’d be so far off the mark that you’re probably in need of public assistance for watching too much Faux News and reading Business Insider. It’s not Apple. It’s Samsung.

The Korean giant’s profits have been on the wane for a year, matched in dropping velocity only by the mostly flatlined stock price. Samsung has cut back on the number of smartphone and tablet models, reduced spending, laid off employees, and now it’s in the process of shuttering a flagship store.

Obsolete lines dropped, oh the inhumanity! Simplify offerings -- OH NO! Quick buy an apple before your friends find out you are not cool!

“Apple does well selling to the people who have to be ahead of the Jone’s....”

Why the need to take gratuitous shots at folks and make unfounded assumptions about their motivations?

“Here’s what happens when the money begins to run out.”

A liberal wrote that? How funny. What do liberals know about the money running out?

Android does what most people need though. Cheaply.

Good enough usually wins in the end.

And Samsung has been less than honest throughout.

They target folks with large incomes and try to separate them from their money, plain and simple.

Why do with a Chevelle when you can have a Cadillac?

Why have a have home made strawberry ice cream when you can have 4 Shari’s Berry’s dipped in chocolate and sprinkles for $40?

Hey, whatever flutters you putter.
People argue about Blondes, vs Brunets or red heads, Mustangs and Camaros...

Don't know how to get the numbers, but I suspect Samsung still has at least 10x or 20x the number of models Apple does.

Android does what most people need though. Cheaply.

Herein lies one of the basic lessons of technology: the mass market is not concerned with "best" but with "good enough." Produce "good enough" at the optimal price to cover costs and gain some profit, and you will obtain the bulk of market share.

The problem lies in "good enough" being usually quickly copyable. Sony lost its shirt on Betamax 30 years ago because VHS was good enough, but VHS was so easily copyable that within a few years its manufacture became both mass-marketed and unprofitable. The same thing happened to RGB color televisions 50 years ago, and is happening to 'droid phones now. The curve from rising star to cash cow to unprofitable dog is steep on both sides.

“Faux News”...Apple is the only thing democrats love more than Obama. The progressive worship of Apple marches on.

Why does anyone care what this woman thinks? Her mind is completely under the spell of the evilstream media, so much so that she scorns Fox for only lying part of the time.

And if you think people can swallow what CNN et al. dish out and remain rational, just try to convince a PBS fan that the media outlets they trust are actually liars.

Then, for a laugh, get them started on how “religion” is based solely on “blind faith.”

This Lib obviously missed the part that it’s Libs like him who skewer the goal of companies to make profits, and regularly equate profits with greed. It is NOT Fox News, but all the other Lib channels who are in bed with the Communist in Chief and mimic him regarding profits, and propagandize for government to take an ever bigger bite out of said profits.

That's obviously gotta be a mistake -- I've seen lots of expensive ads from Samsung showing how superior their products are to Apple's, so it must be true.

But seriously folks, I love Samsung monitors, two of the three hanging off this vintage Mac CPU are Samsung, and there's another one on the newer Mac (heh heh) elsewhere in the house.

“...people who have to be ahead of the Jone’s...”

That, fellow FReeper, is an unfounded shot at CUSTOMERS WHO BUY an Apple product.

So it’s one thing when you say:

“...People argue about Blondes, vs Brunets or red heads, Mustangs and Camaros...”

Discussing (or even arguing about) a product is OK, but IMHO it crosses the line when someone makes derogatory comments about a person for no other reason than, for example, he preferred to buy a Mustang instead of a Camaro. Such insults are uncalled for.
