Man kicked off American Airlines plane after rage over 'Merry Christmas' greeting

When a gate agent greeting everyone the same way told him "Merry Christmas", he responded "You shouldn't say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas."

"Well, what should I say then?" the agent reportedly replied.

"Don't say, 'Merry Christmas!'" the man retorted, now shouting, before walking past her onto the plane.

After a flight attendant greeted the unidentified man with the same Yuletide cheer, he snapped and began lecturing the staff about why they shouldn't say "Merry Christmas." The crew unsuccessfully tried calming him down before he was escorted off the plane.

They all celebrate Christmas except for the JWs, and they don’t get mad at the “Greeting” either, but graciously accept it as the friendly, cheerful greeting that it is.

Historically “X-mas” is really the Greek letter ‘Chi’-mas, which looks like a curvy X, and which is the first letter of Christ in Greek. The first two such letters, Chi-Ro, were common symbols for the persecuted early Christians. So it really is a reasonable abbreviation, and an appropriate one as Greek was a major language of the early church.

I live in a predominately Christian southern county

We have just a handful of non Christian families

One moved here a few years ago from Beverly Hills and immediately complained that Christmas break offended their non Christian family

The school board capitulated immediately

Its now called Winter Break

Its an annual struggle here on the board

I say 'Happy Holidays' all the time. Always have. See no problem with it, and I am just not big on telling everyone how to worship. It's a Catolic thing, I think. I never use X-mas. There is never a reason for it and there is something extremely insulting about replacing 'Christ' with 'X'. Bu tI don't get belligerent about it. We live in a free country with free speech. I probably go out of my way to avoid vendors who use Xmas. It is an insult. But they have the right to use it, so I just don't give them my time and money. When I find a Holiday Card that expresses the beauty of the holiday, And it says 'happy holiday' or 'seasons greetings' I get it and I use it. I write 'Merry Christmas' in it. And I hear from people harassing me that I didn't spend my efforts looking for something that says 'Merry Christmas'. I find it obnoxious. It has to be such a fight? Holiday is such a bad word? Χριστός means “Christ.” X has been an acceptable representation of the word “Christ” for hundreds of years. This device is known as a Christogram. But people don't use it knowing this. It is a commercial abbreviation.

Maybe they should not say “Have a nice day” because some people are depressed. Or maybe they shouldn’t say “Good morning” because somewhere in the world it is night. Or they should not say “May I help you” because disabled people may feel it is a put-down. Or if they say “See you later” a blind person may take offense.
