The hackers behind a devastating cyberattack at Sony Pictures have sent a new message to executives at the company, crediting them for a "very wise" decision to cancel the Christmas day release of "The Interview," a source close to the company told CNN.
The email message was received by Sony's top executives on Thursday night and was obtained by CNN.
The source said that the company believes the email was from the hackers because it followed a pattern of previous messages, sent to a list of particular executives and formatted in a particular way.
A Sony spokesman declined to comment.

I agree... it was a stupid movie. I think the whole thing is kinda funny. Everyone I know gets spam email from people trying to hack their identies. We fake phone calls from people saying their with the IRS and all this crap. And the government can’t do a thing about it. Now SONY gets email hacked and its the end of the world. Our government fails its citizens every day. Why should we get wound up over SONY? SONY can take care of themselves as far as I’m concerned.
The News We (CNN) Kept To Ourselves [must read]
The New York Times | 04/11/03 | EASON JORDAN. . . an oldie but a goodie.
The Japanese government failed SONY I guess
Sony is Japan, though they operate in the USA.
Of course North Korea with the help of China have no ethical problems in hacking a Japanese company that could also hurt earnings and jobs in the USA.
SONY doesn’t deserve any more protection than you and I. When the government gets serious about stopping the hacking attempts we all get every day from foreign countries... then I’ll be interested in listening.
Exactly.
And given that North Korea saw it as a threat I hardly think it is some grand threat to our free speech. We already can’t make threats if they are perceived as threats by the recipient (see stalking laws). You can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater unless there really is a fire. And in this case they were given up voluntarily anyway.
But I am going to grab some popcorn and enjoy an escalating battle between hollywood and North Korea. Let those liberal commies fight it out. This may be better than any show produced by hollywood.
The only bad part is that it very well may end up starting a real war.
you just know what Sony’s lawyers are telling them
Easy solution. Sony should just have another hacker group “steal” the movie and release it on the web “illegally” without Sony’s “permission.” They already have shown they are vulnerable to hacking...
It’s simple. Servers are online primarily because Sony employees usually need to access company information/emails remotely. i.e at home, while traveling while on their phone or laptop. Potential security risk is dealt with via authentiation keys, which work ...most of the time.
My autographed first edition of the Satanic Verses could have company if they released this movie.
This isn’t a first amendment issue.
lies.
Wait until someone can hack into network news rooms and find what passes for “conversation” among the “journalists” there.
Hair raising, I’m sure.
“The only bad part is that it very well may end up starting a real war.”
No, it won’t. The Norks talk a good show, but other than a couple terrorist incidents here and there, they haven’t started anything serious since 1950. All bark (and a really nasty one, at that), no real bite.
However, were I President, I’d tell them PUBLICLY that the U.S. government is encouraging Sony to show the film according to its original plans, and that if so much as one theater anywhere is attacked, then the U.S. would retaliate against N.K. Don’t tell them when or how much, but actually DO IT. Wipe out an air base, and see how many more threats they issue. Wipe out one of Kim Dip Shit’s vacation palaces - leave not one brick or stone stacked on another - and watch them shut up for several years. Time to stop molly-coddling these stone age savages.
No one would ever walk away from that much power.
“Lets not start WW3 over a movie.”
Maybe you should tell whomever did this not to make such threats. I’d be more than happy to nuke the NORKS.
Well I think diplomacy is wiser.
If someone kidnaps your child and holds him hostage do you spout off any bloody thing you are thinking or do you calmly negotiate in order to downgrade the real impending threat?
When dealing with foreign leaders and countries it is wise to show restraint. Just because you can say something doesn’t mean you should.
An attack is being perpetrated that is a direct attack on our freedoms and for groups to freely express opinion via art or other means. That is WORTH A CONFLICT! First, it’s a movie, and then what else?!
