Aftermath[edit]

The attackers left notes connecting their actions to the hostilities between the Ottoman and British Empires, which had been officially declared in October 1914. Believing he would be killed, Gool Mahomed left a letter in his waist-belt which stated that he was a subject of the Ottoman Sultan and that, “I must kill you and give my life for my faith, Allahu Akbar.”

Mullah Abdullah said in his last letter that he was dying for his faith and in obedience to the order of the Sultan, “but owing to my grudge against Chief Sanitary Inspector Brosnan it was my intention to kill him first.”[8]

Apart from the fact that the police were forced to stop a mob from marching on an Afghan camp the following night, there was no violence against the Moslem community afterwards. Instead, the actions were seen as representative of enemy aliens and the Germans in the area were the focus of violence. Believing the Germans had agitated the assailants to attack, the local German Club was burnt to ground, the angry mob cutting the hoses of the firemen who came to fight the flames.[8][9]

The next day the mines of Broken Hill fired all employees deemed enemy aliens under the 1914 Commonwealth War Precautions Act. Six Austrians, four Germans and one Turk were ordered out of town by the public. Shortly after all enemy aliens in Australia were interned for the duration of the war.[9]

Turkish sources claim that the letter from the Ottoman Sultan was a forged one, and the Turkish flag found with the perpetrators was planted. It is claimed that the incident was attributed to Turks in order to rally the Australian public for the war.[10]

Once again, the perps as victims. Blame the Germans!

Man who died in siege hailed as 'an amazing person'

source

The family and friends of a hero cafe manager who lost his life trying to disarm the Lindt Cafe gunman in Sydney remembered an "amazing life partner, son and brother". Tori Johnson, 34, was one of two hostages who were killed around 2am last night after gunman Man Haron Monis, 50, began firing at hostages.

He had reportedly attempted to wrestle the sawn-off shotgun from Monis' hands after he began to fall asleep.

2GB radio host Ben Fordham posted a statement from the parents of Mr Johnson to Twitter.

"We are so proud of our beautiful boy Tori, gone from this earth but forever in our memories as the most amazing life partner, son and brother we could ever wish for," the statement reads. "We feel heartfelt sorrow for the family of Katrina Dawson."

"We'd like to thank not only our friends and loved ones for their support, but the people of Sydney; Australia and those around the world for reaching out with their thoughts and prayers.

"Our deepest gratitude to the NSW police, armed forces and paramedics for their tireless efforts.

"We ask that the media respects our privacy in this difficult time.

"Let us all pray for peace on earth.

Mr Johnson was also remembered by his co-workers and manager at Adria Rybar and Grill in Darling Harbour - where he worked between 2006 and 2012 before taking on the job as manager of the Lindt Cafe in Martin Place.

Restaurant manager Peter Manettas said he wasn't surprised Mr Johnson attempted to save the other hostages.

"Tori was an amazing man," Mr Manettas said. "He was a selfless person. [The staff] loved working for him."

"He was someone who put himself second in everything he did."

Also killed during the siege was 38-year-old barrister and mother-of-three Katrina Dawson.

She was the sister of well-known Sydney lawyer Sandy Dawson.

I see that you’ve been on this. I thought of you last night, when I heard about this on news.

Thanks, I’ve tried to post as much as I could to inform, from various sources; I thought the image of the floral tributes was a fitting final comment.

NSW’s Attorney-General has admitted the self-declared Sheik at the centre of the Martin Place siege that saw two hostages killed “slipped through the cracks”.

The cops did the best they could. It was an impossible or nearly impossible situation.

It appears the strategy was to wait this "nothing to do with Islam" terrorists. It also appears that although there were opportunities for clear shots at him, the police decided to protect his health. Unfortunately, the health of the hostages were what was given in trade.

Correcting an error on my part. Apparently this creature did have a gun licence. With his record and history, there’s no way he should have so I assumed he would have lost it. Apparently not (the information comes from the Prime Minister during a press conference, so I assume it’s accurate). I assume there are going to be serious questions asked as to why he still had one - people have lost them because of very minor issues - he should have lost his by any standard.

It’s amazing the number of red flags these individuals wave in the authorities faces (like Hasan of the Fort Hood shooting, and the two Chechen brothers) and all for naught.

I may have to correct my correction - now NSW Police are saying he didn’t have a gun licence.

At the very least this is exposing how inadequate the system is.

Thank you for the follow up.

No system is good. My former state of residence, Maryland (I’m now in New Mexico) instituted “ballistic fingerprinting”, or having to supply a fired case with each new firearm purchased. After well over a decade, and millions of dollars, this has never solved a crime.

Those who want firearms will get them... it’s just part of the “cost of doing business”.

Since he didn’t have an A/B license, it opens up the possibility of a black market pump gun or semi auto. We’ll see what it was soon enough I guess.
