Chippewa Falls, WI — Dashcam video has been released that shows the disturbing last moments of a man’s life as he’s detained by a Chippewa Falls police officer on the way to the hospital.
29-year-old Casey Kressin died after suffering a severe asthma attack when the vehicle that was rushing him to the hospital was pulled over by a Chippewa Falls police officer.
After they were stopped, Kressin’s girlfriend immediately starts to beg the officer to take him to the hospital. The officer instead calls for an ambulance.
The couple was just 3 miles from the hospital when they were stopped. It took over 6 minutes for the ambulance to arrive.
During the stop, the officer callously listens to the begging couple’s pleas for help as Kressin slips further away. “He’s going to die! He can’t breathe!” screams Kressin’s girlfriend. We can hear Kressin begging for help as he falls to the ground, starving for air, “I can’t breathe…..I can’t breathe.”
The officer just stares at the couple, telling them to wait for the ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrives, it takes another 2 and 1/2 minutes before Kressin begins his journey to the hospital; sadly too much time had passed. Police say Kressin became unresponsive at that time and was pronounced dead at Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
Chippewa Falls Chief Wendy Stelter says she stands behind the officers who responded, saying that Kressin’s girlfriend should not have been allowed to drive the rest of the way because she was hysterical.
However, she was only hysterical because her boyfriend was dying and being kept from life saving treatment that could have saved his life.

Nonsense. That would be a clear case of the cop doing all he could to save a life. He can’t control everything that can go wrong, especially medically, but he can control whether he bothers to try. He didn’t bother to try.
It is from crap like this that I hope one day a cop needs me to save his life. Because as much value as they’ve shown for our lives, I’ll let him die.
Few months ago I had to rush my girl to the hospital with a severe asthma attack. She was in pretty bad shape. I was driving like a bat out of hell and blew a couple of traffic lights, when I ran right into a police officer waiting at a traffic light.
Flashed my high-beams, got out and asked him to lead me to the hospital which was a couple of miles away. He said he couldn’t but he would call me an ambulance. I said no and got back to the car bummed that I would now have to drive slowly behind him.
15 seconds go by. All of a sudden he put his lights on and blew through the red light in the direction of the hospital. I followed him. Not a mile later he starts slowing down and put his hazards on. Then he turned on all his front lights and the high power spotlight and I saw the problem. About 12 deer were crossing the road. The line of deer was so long that unless you saw them form a distance at the speed I was going, I would have most certainly hit a couple!
The officer not only had a heart, he saved our lives.
God’s blessings to that man and to the family and friends of this poor guy who unfortunately ran into a complete monster.
Depends on response time and transport time and nature of the call and in fact weather.
I work right in the middle of the Dallas Ft Worth TX metromess.
If I call air evac, I might have one on the ground in 10 minutes at best, if they don’t lie to me and the weather is good.
I can load and go a patient and drive to a level 1 trauma center in about 13 minutes.
I live in the county. It will take probably 20 minutes to get an ambulance, Then they are 20 minutes + transport to any hospital. Local VFD are basic EMT’s.
I can drive to that hospital in 25 minutes running the speed limit.
My plan is throw the person in the truck an lay a dark black cloud of diesel smoke all the way to the hospital with an open line to 911 dispatch.
If an ambulance can intercept, fine. Otherwise I go all the way in.
For that matter, the whole line of thinking of those in authority has changed. Under the Constitution, the Citizen was king and government existed to serve the Citizen. Under the new breed, Government is god and the citizen is its slave.
The issue is the callousness (or raw stupidity) of the cop after the car was stopped.

I take it his inhaler was ineffective. He was administered CPR in the ambulance. Had the officer taken him in the squad car after dealing with the hysterical woman and her daughter, there would have been no one to administer CPR. As it was the man died of cardiac arrest in the hospital. Sometimes you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. And then there are some on FR who will blame the cops no matter what. (I’m not saying that’s you.)
Wrong. They are there because they’re too stupid to be at a real job.
I find it hard to believe they have no triage nurse.
The person coming in needs to use words like “stroke, high blood pressure, sudden onset, TIA, chest pain” etc.
You need to be an advocate for your patient.
In the old days, the cop, one he saw what the situation was, would have said, “follow me” pulled his car in front of the vehicle, turned on his emergency lights and siren and led the way to the hospital. At least that was what they would have done where I grew up. Before they became “professional”.
But at least you are in the right place when that happens.

That statement certainly is nonsense. Anyone who believes it would have to excuse any inaction on the part of any official. What? the fire department didn't respond? That's okay, they were probably afraid of being sued for some reason or another.
So much for being brave.
No, our SOP’s say to come to a full stop or near full stop before proceeding through a red light only after you have looked each driver in opposing traffic in the eyes.
Going through green lights is a -bit- safer. I still slow down to under the speed limit for green lights just due to the unpredictability of startled drivers.
They killed him to protect him.

Hopefully you'll think about your statement, the cop you let die may be one of the most compassionate and helpful people in the world, in other words a human being.
