CNN OPINION: Charles Barkley, wrong on race, Ferguson and Garner
CNN ^ | updated 12:57 PM EST, Thu December 4, 2014 | Jason Johnson

[SNIP]

"There is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right," Barkley said.

The problem with these statements isn't just that they are misleading -- 16 out of 29 witness statements said that Mike Brown had his hands up to surrender, in direct conflict with Darren Wilson's story; and police used a banned choke hold on Eric Garner, a measure that was known to cause death -- but that Charles Barkley is uniquely and astoundingly unqualified to discuss issues of race, law and police violence.

If property damage makes you a scumbag, then how would we describe someone who, in the 1990s, got into bar fights, throwing a man face first through a store window? (Barkley, who said he was provoked, was fined and sentenced to community service in that incident.)

If black folks need to take more responsibility how would you describe a black man who drives drunk, runs a red light and explains to police that he was rushing home to have sex with the woman in the passenger seat?

If those actions make you a scumbag, or show lack of responsibility, then Barkley should let it be known he's talking about himself. Because he has been charged with crimes over the course of his career but somehow he never ended up shot, or dead, and has spent three days in jail. Charles Barkley's personal failings don't disqualify him from social commentary, but his hypocrisy does.

Charles Barkley is a very, very rich man, whose fame and celebrity have protected him from the kind of hostility and harassment from the police that thousands of other Americans, especially African-Americans, experience every day. It's easy for Charles Barkley to lecture protesters and looters

Forget that the forensic evidence put that lie to that testimony. Facts are irrelevant here.

I believe he was shot in the back too . . . on his way to Sunday school.

OK, I am a new witness that did not come forth till now. I ‘saw’ everything (in my mind’s eye).

I did not see his hands up. Now it’s 16 of 30.

Any other new witnesses out there (they come out of the woodwork against Cosby)????

...16 out of 29 witness statements said that Mike Brown had his hands up to surrender, in direct conflict with Darren Wilson's story...

True, and subsequent interrogation showed that every one of them lied to the grand jury. Read the report, stupid.

Okay... so... now, a black man who has had dealings with the police is uniquely unqualified to comment on black men’s dealings with police. Gotcha. Okie-dokie. Mm-hmm.

This guy is a moron. The veracity of “witnesses” isn’t determined by a vote of the witnesses but by weather the witness testimony fits the evidence. What did they expect Mike Browns criminal “friend” to say or many of the others some who claimed to have saw things that only a super man could’ve saw with x-ray vision. Leftists are just horrible people. Every time I think maybe just maybe they are redeemable I read something like this and I know that these people are just evil. Totally soulless and evil.

FROM THE ARTICLE:

“If black folks need to take more responsibility how would you describe a black man who drives drunk, runs a red light and explains to police that he was rushing home to have sex with the woman in the passenger seat?”

SIMPLE ANSWER: SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO BE ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING ... AND THAT IS TRUE REGARDLESS OF HIS RACE.

Its pretty mild compared to some of the rabid hate thrown at conservative blacks on twitter.

They just parrot klan ideology and aren’t smart enough to know it.

But, of course, extra special CNN reporters are. Ha, Johnson, you sure stepped in it, again.

The guy is a total idiot. Brown and Garner died mainly because they resisted arrest (and in the case of Brown, violently so). In the cases he mentions re Barkley, Charles did not resist arrest.

And as for acting responsibly the fact that someone may act irresponsibly at one time, (and possibly get away with it) doesn’t suddenly make it wrong.

But Al Sharpton is. Jesse Jackson is. Eric Holder is. Barack Obama is.

Uh huh.

So Jason Johnson was sent out by his White liberal Democrat masters to put Sir Charles in his place. Sir Charles keep speaking your mind so eventually the true “sellouts” like Jason Johnson can’t avoid dealing with the biggest problem in the Black community and that is self responsibility.

The comment section has multiple threads “waiting for moderation.” But you can click on the notification and read them. Sort of a limited, modified deletion. So goes the national “discussion of race.” If it’s not deleted outright, it will be shielded from sensitive eyes.
