Senate Averts Shutdown Fears [until Wednesday]; Fights Over Nominees
ABC News ^ | December 13, 2014 | AP

Posted on 12/13/2014 2:03:46 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Their power ebbing, Senate Democrats launched a last-minute drive Saturday to confirm roughly 20 of President Barack Obama's nominees, and several Republicans blamed tea party-backed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for creating an opening for the outgoing majority party to exploit.

Lawmakers took a break in their intrigue long enough to send Obama legislation that provides funds for the government to remain open until Wednesday at midnight, easing concerns of a shutdown. A separate, $1.1 trillion long-term funding bill remained in limbo.

Republicans tried to slow the nomination proceedings, but several voiced unhappiness with Cruz, a potential presidential candidate in 2016. One likened his actions to his role in precipitating a 16-day partial government shutdown more than a year ago.

"I've seen this movie before, and I wouldn't pay money to see it again," Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said between seemingly endless roll calls.

Cruz blamed the Democrats' leader, Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, saying his "last act as majority leader is to, once again, act as an enabler" for the president by blocking a vote on Obama's policy that envisions work visas for an estimated 5 million immigrants living in the country illegally.

Cruz said Reid was "going to an embarrassing length to tie up the floor to obstruct debate and a vote on this issue because he knows amnesty is unpopular with the American people, and he doesn't want the Democrats on the record as supporting it."

Democrats lost control of the Senate in the November, and Republicans will take over when the new Congress convenes in January.

The GUTLESS backstabbing Republicans (Give.Obama.Power party)
dare blame those who actually FIGHT for Conservatism
and the USA?

The blame is not only nonsensical but cowardly.

So already some Republicans are complaining about Cruz? Good.

I hope Cruz continues to be a thorn in their side.

It’s not much, but I’ll take what I can get right now.

I support rectal re-hydration for Reid!

Of course that begets the question: "Which end does the tube go in?"

Go Ted!!!!!!! “Obstruction” is progress against these US-Citizen-hating bunch of traitors who are trying to further enslave us. I hope these bung-hole politicians (especially those who were thrown-out in the last election) are out of office. These criminal-politicians should be jailed and many exiled. Arrogant, condescending losers.

You just can’t buy the sort of ringing endorsements that Ted Cruz keeps on getting.

Here’s a thought....the cromnibus gets delayed and delayed and delayed and delayed until January. Ted Cruz ticks off the entire Senate, the House, the media, and the gop. Great way to spend Christmas if you ask me.

What puzzles me about the GOPe shutdown phobia is that, just one year after, they won 9 Senate seats, got the most House seats since 1928, and the most State legislative chambers EVER.

Just imagine if the voters DIDN’T blame them for the shutdown what would have happened!

January can’t come soon enough.

Although I share your sentiment wholeheartedly, I'm afraid we're in for a stomach punch, the likes we've never felt before. Boner and McConnell will lead their sheep astray and continue with the big government, progressive actions.

The only way I see it not happening is to replace Boner & McConnell.

Sorry, nothing will change in January.

Reid isn’t going anywhere. He will still be throwing stink bombs.

McConnell will still be scheming against conservatives and back stabbing us.

The progressive wing of the GOP will continue their war against us. Blue state GOPers up for reelection like Ayotte will be Democrats in all but name.

There’s really nothing to look forward to. The next two years are going to be one train wreck after another for us.

By drawing the CRomnibus voting process out as long as possible, Ted Cruz is exposing the back-stabbing of John Boehner and Mitch McConnell of their own fellow Republicans in order to support Obama, the man Republicans overwhelmingly disapprove of and whom even Democrats didn’t want to be seen with during their reelection campaigns.

By the time the new Republican Congress convenes next year, it’s hard to believe that many House Republicans will not have had second thoughts about voting for John Boehner to lead them again. Not only should his treasonous pact with Obama to fund amnesty and ObamaCare put him out of contention for the Speakership, but also his bungling of the whole process, which ended up putting his arch political enemy, Ted Cruz, in charge, should be a wake-up call to Republicans to hasten John Boehner’s retirement.
