Defying his party's leadership, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz upended plans for smooth passage of a $1.1-trillion spending bill, forcing a rare Saturday session as Congress braces to prevent a new threatened government shutdown..
Cruz launched the Senate into turmoil as he tried to use the government shutdown as leverage to stop President Obama's immigration plans.
Now, Congress faces a midnight Saturday deadline to keep federal operations running.
Senators were streaming into the Capitol on a sunny winter Saturday for a series of procedural votes, with many not happy about the situation.
"I remind everyone, 12 o'clock midnight, 12 a.m., the United States government tonight runs out of money," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said as he opened the chamber.
The Senate chaplain used the morning prayer to ask for God's help empowering senators "to make their decisions after weighing them on the scale of long-term consequences."(continued)
The sudden turn of events hit Congress as lawmakers had largely agreed to move forward with funding the government and begin wrapping up their work before the holidays.

Amen!
Ted is our only hope as a leader. This move over McConnell was outstanding. McConnell and the rest of the RINOs will be after blood now.
I wish Ted would declare his run for president now, set up regular meetings with House and Senate followers, and coordinate the House and Senate strategy and votes.
Love that vintage pic of our Sen Cruz!!
Go Ted, go!!
Defund executive amnesty in the Cromnibus

I’m for Ukraine entire..unfortuantely I don’t have much hope it’ll know much more that conflict...it seems to follow it for decades....
There’s a concentrated effort to drive out the Russian population in the east, at the very least knock down the numbers where it has no political power......and Keiv has it’s mauraders knocking off Russian Ukrainians in the cities still.
Kiev has to have the East Industrial areas...even if it means working with Russia and they know that...otherwise the area will remain a conflict zone in order for Russia to push for Ukraine to be “Neutral”.
Kerry and Lav are meeting Mon or Tues....regarding the status of Ukraine....
They just can’t accept that the government shutting down for awhile is not all that important. In fact, the more it happens, the more people realize that it’s no big deal.
” Kiev has to have the East Industrial areas..”
Yes.
Shut it down for 20 years until we balance it. We’re letting in all of our enemies anyway, so we’ll just fight them on our own in our streets as we will be soon anyway. Look at Europe. Police and government do little.
We should be pouring arms into any country like the Ukraine that Russia threatens. That is how you push back against Putin. All Obama wants to do is turn his back to Putin and bend over. I don’t get it.
No need for a third party.
Just get rid of the GOP leaders. As usual just a few cause the rotting of the whole.
” Just get rid of the GOP leaders”
Boenher & McConnell are the ones who have been bought off.
Agree.
I think the “life preserver” just passed.
They have ALWAYS received back pay for the days they were off.
Not funding DHS is another trick. Assume that Boehner, in Feb, threatens Obama by reducing funding to the DHS. What does Obama do? He sits back and laughs. He will just claim that since he has lost DHS funding, he will have to shut down border security. Bingo. That is what the Dims and RINOs have wanted all along. Open borders.
The Constitutionality of Obummers non existent EO on Amnesty.
” That is what the Dims and RINOs have wanted all along. Open borders.”
Boner & McConnell were well paid.
“
The conservative media will carry it correctly and that will fire up the base.
For right now, that is enough. “
Correcto.
Don’t the Democrats still control the Senate?
