Surprise. Does FREEPERS ever like a movie? Why yes of course their special favorite American Carol and Saving Christmas.......sorry but on movies, most of you do not have any credibility.
Will this film assault my religious sensibilities like Moses did. Will I want to walk out and will my mouth hang open in shock like with Russell Crowe’s atrocity film, Moses. Or will I be able to sit thru it and say, they’re on the right track. Will it be as good as Son of God by producers Roma Downey and her husband.
The original Exodus movie came out in 1960 and starred Paul Newman. It was a fantastic movie. I hate to think of what today’s Hollywierd idiots did to it.
After that complete mess called Prometheus i will never purposely see another Ridley Scott film.
I'm not surprised.
I really liked the book this is based on...
Jesus of Nazareth (1977)

So far rottentomatoes.com is giving it 43%. By the way don’t bother watching The Hunger Games part three, it sucks!
I’ll comment after I see it. I know that’s hard for some to understand.
I am the designee film reviewer for my wife’s bible group.
Sigh. Sounds like just another soulless CGI movie without much story, dialog, character development or acting. I’m starting to think almost all “blockbuster” films are little more than infomercials for the video game.
Just watched Ghostbusters again tonight, and it was wonderful to see a movie with real sets for the entire picture, with minimal bluescreen and claymation for the special effects.
First Impression: The title is off-putting.
Exodus: Gods and Kings
Gods - Plural
Kings - Plural
Of course, in the story of Exodus there is only one God and only one king.
Who is the other god? The god of the Egyptians? That is a false god. God is the one true God. That is the whole point, isn’t it?
Who is the other King? Moses? Moses is not a king. Moses is the son of Hebrew slaves and could never be king. Again, that is kind of the whole point.
It seems like the assumption of the movie is that it was a battle between two gods and two kings, and God was the better god and Moses was the better king, so the Israelites prevailed. This is a perversion of everything in Exodus.
This is a lot of analysis for four words, of course. Maybe it is a fine movie. But if they can’t even get through the title without going astray, I am going to bet against it.
This reviewer’s main problems with the film seems to be that it doesn’t cast black actors in the lead and that it sticks pretty much to the familiar bible story rather than taking a “new twist” like the Noah movie did. I consider these features not bugs.
“It is overly reverent to the sacred text yet offers no religious emphasis for the sake of not offending those outside the dogma.”
I hope that by “overly reverent to the sacred text” that he means it follows what the bible actually says.
Offering no religious emphasis is actually preferable, since explaining the whole “Moses as precursor of Christ Jesus” analogy is probably a bit more than what was budgeted for the film.
Christian Bale (regarding Moses)
That is supposed to be an angel or messenger of God. It might not have been a good way to go -- they were trying to get away from the God as disembodied voice-over of other movies, like DeMille's -- but it's not supposed to be God Himself.
I've come around to your viewpoint. This think looks like Noah all over again. I'll only watch it if it eventually comes to Netflicks. Maybe not even then.
