LACK OF RAIN CAUSED BY NATURAL PATTERNS, REPORT SAYS (NEWSER) Is humanity off the hook for California's record-breaking drought? A new federal report says the drought, "while extreme, is not an uncommon occurrence for the state," and is the result of natural weather patterns instead of man-made climate change, reports USA Today. NOAA researchers say a major cause of the drought has been a warm, dry, high-pressure ridge over the eastern Pacific and western US that has blocked precipitationand climate models say greenhouse gases should have the opposite effect, causing slightly more precipitation in the region instead of blocking it. "The report is not dismissive of global warming at all," an NOAA meteorologist and study co-author says. "At the same time, drought is not a consequence of the warming planet to date."
But scientists not involved with the study accuse the NOAA researchers of failing to take into account how warmer temperatures aggravated the drought, including causing more moisture to evaporate from the ground. The report "completely misses any discussion of evapotranspiration and the increased drying associated with global warming," a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research tells NBC. The scientists are even unable to agree on how bad the drought is, the AP reports: A study co-author says it doesn't rank among the five worst in the state's history, but a separate study released this week says it's the area's worst in 1,200 years.
Me? I’d be blaming that shortage of water in Callie on all the illegals it’s been harboring.
MM climate change is caused entirely by leftists.
Hockey Sticks!
Wow, there are still some honest government scientists working in the climate area.
See?
I haven’t followed this as closely as some others. But somebody vet this theory.
Irrigation that used to be brought to the desert valley in CA has been cut off to save the critters. We know from the dustbowl that the drier/more arid an area gets, the drier and more arid an area gets. When there is less moisture in the ground, there is less moisture to be reabsorbed into the atmosphere. Is there any truth to the theory that the reduction of irragation to the area may have actually been a catalys that started and worsened the drought?
Looking for a knowledgeable FReeper here.
I'm suspicious about their agenda. What are we missing? Why do they not want to LINK this natural event to globul warming.
A nice desalination plant that feeds water to that region should fix things for millions.
Or is that just way too easy?
Didn’t you get the memo? All bad weather is caused by anthropogenic climate change. Just ask Algore.
That is why they stopped calling it Global Warming and switched to Global Climate Change. It is so much more flexible than Global Cooling or Global Warming ever were.
The problem with Global Cooling and then Global Warming is that eventually the rubes had to figure out that none of the predictions ever came true. With Global Climate Change it doesn’t matter what the weather happens to be. It can always be cited as proof.
Can't disagree with that:)
Unless it costs at least 5 billion, it is too easy.
Climate change is cool......4 seasons.
I thought Obama already blamed the California drought on global warming when discussing a fund to pay for the effects of global warming.
So the moisture in CA evaporates, who in the world is enduring flooding as a result?
As far as I know only two plants in cal. Santa bRbara decommissioned. Carlsbad to open 2016
There isn’t a shred of evidence that our climate is changing in any way.
We are 80 years along in a cooling trend that was predicted to last 110 years at the end of WW-II.
.
It was in the article. They said GW would INCREASE the amount of rain, which it clearly hasn't. So... they are only left with admitting that GW has nothing to do with it.
Someone's going to be calling Penny Pritzker about re-education for her rogue organization.
