Police in Small Wisconsin City Want Residents to Volunteer to Have Their Homes Searched for Guns

Police in Beloit, Wisconsin, want residents to volunteer to let officers search their homes for firearms as part of a new initiative that officials believe will help reduce gun violence.

Beloit Police Chief Norm Jacobs told Wisconsin Public Radio that officers will mostly be looking for guns in homes that residents might not even be aware of. “That’s really what we’re looking for. Maybe we’ll find a toy gun that’s been altered by a youngster in the house — and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion,” he added.

Jacobs also told WPR that “gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus.” The home searches, he argued, are similar to a vaccine to strengthen the city’s immune system, the report stated.

That being said, the police chief admitted he isn’t anticipating a stampede of residents eager to have their homes searched.

In 2014, there have reportedly been seven gun-related homicides in Beloit. Most have victims have been teenagers or men in their 20s.

To txnaitivegop's point, this is a great video. It looks like a long video but the first 20 min are the important ones where the criminal defense attorney explains why you should never talk to cops ever (even if you're innocent). The second half is a cop explaining some cop techniques but agreeing with the attorney.

What the chief is offering is a way for parents who are afraid of their punk ass kids to have the police search their homes for hidden weapons. I may suggest this to my chief of police.

Good job, Norm. Apparently your official designation as a dumbass extends across several categories. And hey, don’t even think about blaming it on the fact that your college years coincided with the Carter administration. We all have our crosses to bear.

WHAT! You have 10 bullets for a gun that only holds 5? Are you, or have you ever been a domestic terrorist?

They just need everyone to happily surrender their 4th Amendment rights...for the 'children'

Anyone who doesn't must have something to hide.

Cop who are let into someone’s home without a warrant will look like idiots if they don’t make a bust.

They’ll find/plant something with which to make an arrest/forfeiture; it’s in their interest to do so.

This plus anonymous snitch hotlines are scary; real police state stuff.

This month only you can volunteer to have your home searched for guns. Hurry! Don’t delay because this offer is only good until midnight December 30th. After that this offer is null and void and your house may be forcibly entered and your guns confiscated.

I’ve never owned a gun in my life

You might want to rethink that. We live in a world that is getting more violent and dangerous every day.

Right, please feel free to carry out a fishing expedition on my private property, at my expense with anything found. Like I have to prove my innocence to any unsubstantiated charge....NOT!

I bet that Norm is thinking of the single welfare mothers in his town, of which there are many, and their out of control male offspring.

He is offering them a way to get rid of guns that the mothers do not want the dangerous young men to have, but are afraid to take from them themselves.

he even mentioned finding toy guns, so they are going to be looking for anything, not just firearms.

“I have never known a cop who would turn such a bust down for any reason.”

Elect a pro-2nd Amendment, Constitutional sheriff in your county, and a thug, fascist cop will be thinking real hard - two or three times, in fact - before acting like a jackboot.

those are in relatively short supply these days and in any case, in too many states the role of the county sheriff and his department have been shredded.

Jacobs also told WPR that “gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus.”

We can stop gun violence, through good policing and widespread gun ownership by good people. However, alas, we may not be able to stop Ebola.

So, who here thinks this cop is eligible for Eric Bolling's "Fool of the Week" on The Five?

PING!

Those guns are treacherous. You never know when one will sneak into your house and just hide out there, biding its time until it’s ready to go on a murderous rampage.

“those are in relatively short supply these days and in any case, in too many states the role of the county sheriff and his department have been shredded.”

Actually, Constitutional sheriffs are only in short supply in those areas that haven’t elected a Constitutional sheriff in their counties. So the fault for a shortage in certain areas lies with the citizenry.

As for the second part of your statement, a Constitutional sheriff cannot be “shredded” because a sheriff is a sovereign, according to the USSC. That means a sheriff cannot be compelled to carry out the dictates of the federal or state governments. The details are outlined in the Mack ruling by the SCOTUS.

For example, you can read about the sovereignty of sheriffs in Colorado after 90% of the sheriffs said they would refuse to carry out Hickenloopers illegal gun control dictates.
