The Republicans need to be out in front now about O-care, clearly pointing out that if the law isn’t curtailed or repealed MILLIONS are going to loose their healthcare coverage at work next year.

If they aren’t in front of cameras now pointing that out, when everyone does lose it at work, the Republicans will be blamed for that somehow too, and then if they try to repeal O-care THEN the meme will be “Look everybody, the Republicans want to take away the last healthcare coverage you have! You lost it at work because of them, now they want to take it away from you for good!”

It’s coming make no mistake. It’s the last part of the grand master plan to get the public hooked on the governent teat. And the Pubbies are falling right into it with this “strategy” of “cave before we even try”.

There is little doubt that the shutdown damaged the party’s standing. Polls showed that approval of the Republican party hit an all time low of 32 percent during the shutdown. Fifty-three percent of Americans blamed the GOP for the impasse, versus only 29 percent who blamed the president. Approval of Congress registered at 12 percent, with 85 percent disapproving and 70 percent strongly disapproving.

These weak-kneed people need to be challenged. The temporary polling doesn't mean crap. They point to a poll at a meaningless point in time instead of focusing on the big picture. I bet the NFL owners and player popularity drop when they strike, and then everyone tunes right back in with the first snap of the ball. Making sausage isn't pretty, but it has to be done.

it’s possible that Republicans would have done even better last month if the shutdown had never happened. New Hampshire and Virginia were close.

BS. The single biggest one-sided electoral cycle ever, but it might have been better if not for this shutdown. Does Mona have any idea what drove people to the polls? It was opposition to Obamacare first and foremost. The 2013 confrontation solidified the principle that it is bad and need to be eliminated or changed drastically. The second the website went bad, the first approach on the left was to try to pull the GOP down with it 'it was a Republican idea' that was dropped in days because the public has JUST seen the shutdown over this issue. It was an anchor around only the Democrats' necks.

Some people just need to get out of DC more often and realize that no one else gives a crap about a shutdown long term. There have been 20+ in modern politics, and only in the 90s did it become this big myth about damaging Republicans.

“If the Republicans have no way to repeal O-care and/or reverse the illegal immigration pass of the community organizer, then they have a problem. Because that’s what they were elected to do. Even by the low-info voter.”

Facts:
1. You can bring a bill to the floor and pass it in the House with a simple majority.
2. You can only bring a bill to the floor in the senate with 60 votes.
3. It takes 67 votes in the Senate to override a Presidential veto.
4. The republicans only have 54 votes in the Senate.
5. Obama will veto any repeal of OCare and any reversal of his immigration actions.

Please explain how the republicans can repeal ObamaCare or reverse the illegal immigration.

It’s time for conservatives to recognize that arm waving won’t repeal OCare nor it will arm waving reverse amnesty.

“Also when the employer mandate exemption extension that was quietly done this last year expires, and millions more loose their healthcare coverage at work, the low info voters are gonna be looking for someone to blame. And if the Republicans aren’t doing something about that, there will be hell to pay.”

They can only pass bills in the house and force the democrats to block real reform in the Senate. They can make the democrats bleed and lay the ground work for reform in 2017.

It’s time for conservatives to quit wasting their time on fruitless efforts.

Facts:

1. Obamacare is unpopular
2. Amnesty is even more unpopular
3. Republicans will have control of both Congressional Houses
4. If you present bills to Obama to rein in these programs and he vetoes them (or shuts down the government) make him own it.
5. If you present bills to fund everything EXCEPT these two and he chooses to shut down the government rather than sign them, he will be laid bare as the ideologue he is—even for the LIV.

One minor point. The GOP cannot bring a bill to the floor without six democrat senators voting in favor of cloture. That limits their ability to “bring bills to Obama”.

Essentially, you are saying that the only thing the GOP can do without democrat cooperation is to bring bills forward that force votes that embarrass Obama and the Democrat party. With that I agree.

My disagreement with others on this thread is that one can blame the gop for not repealing obamacare or overturning amnesty. Even if every GOP senator votes in favor of those things, they will not pass.

I also disagree with others on this thread that shutting down the government is a viable strategy. Others say that since the GOP ran on overturning amnesty and repealing Obamacare, they have a mandate to shutdown the government. That completely ignores the fact that every GOP candidate ran on a platform of no government shutdown.

I guess you’re right, but it seems to me that if they can’t do anything to stop the Marxism, they might try not HELPING the leftists. That at least would be nice.

Honestly, what’s the point? Do they even care anymore about trying to look like they oppose the Democrats?

They do look like they are ‘trying to look like they oppose the Democrats’ as long as you have realistic expectations about what the Republicans can accomplish.

You should remember that most of the stuff you read and hear is only for public consumption by the news agencies and the Republicans have to be careful about what they say and how they say it. The news agencies are always ready to misconstrue in order to claim that the Republicans are out to shut down the government and impeach The First Black President.

Have you considered that much of what is reported by the media is carefully crafted to incite unrest within the ranks of the Republican Party? There are few things the media would rather cover than an outright revolt by conservatives resulting in the destruction of the only party standing in the way of the democrats.

Not true.

My disagreement with others on this thread is that one can blame the gop for not repealing obamacare or overturning amnesty.

True, we can't blame them for not repealing. WE CAN blame them for setting it up to begin with. Although it passed without a single GOP vote and the Dems own in that way, the GOP owes the implementation. Although elected with a mandate to stop Obamacare in 2010, they have instead set up Obamacare with every continuing resolution since (including the current one).

This applies to amnesty as well. We own the power of the purse. Do not fund what you don't want funded. Simple. Pass the departmentalized bills one by one out of the House and let the Dems try to stand in their way while blaming the GOP for "obstruction". When the government isn't funded, it won't be the fault of the GOP and that will be clear. In fact, the GOP gets the "credit" or "blame" for the last shutdown depending on your political persuasion. There are many who credit the GOP for FINALLY showing some backbone. The press just doesn't want to explore what comes after "who is to blame for the last shutdown?"... the biggest political event prior to the "wave" election.

It would all be fun to watch if our side had any sort of gonads whatsoever.

Good God you’re wrong on the shutdown too.

The roll out disaster of Obama Care did not “save the Republicans” from the shutdown - IT VALIDATED THE SHUTDOWN.

I think we’ve uncovered a liberal troll here......

The public does not hate shutdowns.......only in Washington, and in your tiny head, is that believed.

No shutdown has ever actually hurt the Republicans in the subsequent election. And this time, it HELPED.

Are you a liberal government employee? Must be....either that or you’re eaten up with conventional wisdom because original thought is too hard.

Gee, after the “shutdown”, the GOP gained nine Senate seats, more Representatives than any time since 1928, and more State House chambers than, ever.

Do it again, harder!
