Not a chokehold: Truth of the Garner arrest
NY Post ^ | 8/14/2014 | Bo Dietl

It wasn’t a chokehold.

That’s just the biggest single distortion in all the talk about the Eric Garner case, in which the public has been misinformed and misled from the start.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has never had to put himself in harm’s way to protect our streets against crime, as our police officers do every day. He’s in no way qualified to stand on his soapbox and dictate procedures. I spent decades in law enforcement. During my time with the NYPD, I was responsible for over 1,400 felony arrests — any of which could’ve required the use of deadly physical force. Volunteering to be a decoy cop in the 1970s, I was the victim of more than 500 muggings, about 30 of which injured me seriously enough that I was hospitalized. I wound up in countless physical situations and was always able to get the perp into cuffs.

This was written in August when there was less attention on the case.

Good article.

The guy was obese, and had medical problems. He should have quickly surrendered. He didn’t.

I think the bigger question is why are 4 cops trying to arrest a guy who sold one single solitary cigarette in the first place? Oh that’s right, because New York city which is run 100% by DEMOCRATS care about nothing else but getting their damn tax money.

The descriptive paragraphs:
And it was a headlock, not a chokehold. To be a chokehold, there must be constant pressure on the person’s neck, compressing his windpipe or cutting off the flow of blood to the carotid artery, rendering him unconscious.

Watch the video: It’s obvious that the arresting officer put his arm around Garner’s neck to bring him to the ground—but once Garner was on the ground, he was still conscious and able to say he couldn’t breathe. …
Already too many race hustlers openly admitting that they care nothing for the facts, but is their credibility questioned by the media?

Don’t the first two sentences make it sound likes he thinks it was a chokehold?

To the democrats, not paying your taxes is a capital offense.

Unless of course, you're one of their top cronies like Warren Buffett.

To paraphrase Ann Coulter: Never stand between a liberal and their armed tax collectors.

He was a repeat offender, as in dozens of times.

The officers who approached Garner were responding to community complaints about his ongoing activities.

Absolute garbage, I grew up in NYC and finally got smart and moved two years ago. The cops always say that. The bottom line is the NYPD is ORDERED by LIBERALS to take to the streets and act as tax collectors and shakedown artists. I have a lot of friends who are cops who are sick to death of this BS just as much as the public, they got cops out 1am in the morning walking up and down blocks looking at registration and inspection stickers on parked cars. WHY are they doing that when the NYPD has an entirely separate traffic enforcement dept?? Because liberals are using and abusing the ENTIRE NYPD solely to get their damn money to bribe people with their socialist BS.

Dietl tells us to watch the video. I’ve seen it many times. It was , in fact a chokehold, based on the fact that, unless Garneer was thinking many steps ahead and was lying, Garner said HE COULDN’T BREATH. That is what happens when you are being choked. Hence, a ‘choke hold’. Nothing any of the other officers were doing caused him not to be able to breathe.

These are questions of fact that should’ve been decided by a trial and jury.

The cynic in me thinks Obama and Holder somehow (hey, they got Roberts to behave as though he never read the Constitution) manipulated this decision to keep their race narrative alive.

I do find it curious that DiBlasio seems to be skating, while had this happened under Rudy, they would have been screaming for his resignation.

The cigarette issue apparently involves taxes. New York has very heavy taxes on cigarettes, whereas states like North Carolina have much lower taxes. People import cigarettes from the South to states like NY. There have been ads by New York telling how mean and evil this is.

I am sure that the police were asked to crack down on this despicable selling of cigarettes which have not been fully taxed.

The cigarette runners sell unpackaged cigarettes, because it is hard to tell whether they have been taxed or not. Therefore, they made it illegal to sell single cigarettes.

Pantaleo explained to the grand jury that he attempted to take Garner down with a wrestling move he learned in the police academy. If you slow the video down you can see that his left hand is pulling on Garner’s upper chest, not his neck. Only after Garner pushed him into a large glass window and he thought he was going through it did Pantaleo put his arm around Garner’s neck. But he still didn’t apply enough pressure to damage the trachea or hyoid bone, and Garner remained conscious until well after he was on the ground.

Garner had the right to vote for people who make the law. He had the right to his day in court, but he didn’t have a right to resist arrest.

Garner died because criminal tax policy created an opening for illicit profit by criminals.

The guy was huge. Anyone trained at all in dealing with disabilities would know he's a candidate for respiratory issues, and not have done anything that might affect his breathing. Anyone authorized to use force should be trained to recognize disabilities.

This case is not like the others. It's way too many people working for the taxman taking down a disabled man who wouldn't be selling "loosies" except for an unjust tax that disproportionatly affects those who can least afford it.
