Antarctic sea ice reached a record high this year, topping 20 million square kilometers (nearly 8 million square miles) in September a milestone it hadn't touched since 1979.
It's a fact climate change deniers are fond of repeating. If the planet is warming, shouldn't sea ice be melting away rather than growing?
It's true that the phenomenon is a confusing one but it's no proof that climate change isn't happening. In fact, scientists believe that climate change is actually responsible for the strange events down in the Antarctic.
The first thing to note is that sea ice and land ice are two completely different things.
Snowfall could also be a factor. It's unclear how much snowfall has fluctuated over the past few decades in Antarctica, but experts believe it will increase as the climate continues to warm.
Even wind could be part of the answer. Climate change is altering weather patterns all over the globe.
So while the Earth's natural processes may sometimes be strange and confusing, there's no reason to doubt that climate change is really happening. In fact, science indicates that it may be responsible for some of the most surprising phenomena we're observing on the planet.

Only at the South Pole. It grows and shrinks every year. Sometimes more , sometimes less.
Same thing happens at the North Pole, more or less.
what about that dont you understand ,
Why you are having a knee jerk reaction about me explaining to you that GLOBAL WARMING is a fact. It either is a fact, or there were not glaciers across half of North America back during the Ice Age. Which do you choose ?
NOW, the idea that man is causing GLOBAL WARMING is a hoax. While that may be what you meant, it is not what you said. I was merely trying to get you to INCLUDE that idea in your 'thinking' and posting, but you decided to act like a jerk.
you puppet of the media?
See what I mean ?
you can take all your fake government funded data and go put it right by your copy of the ny times
You have misread me this whole time, and while I admit it may be my fault for not being more clear, you can quit anytime. You aren't dealing with the subject, you are trying to make it personal. You are letting emotion control you simply because you couldn't stand it when I tried to clarify your remark. Grow up.

Not sitting around worried about warming or cooling. My ability to adapt hasn’t even come close to the tolerance level. I assume my grandchildren will be equally adaptable.
Much ado about nothing. Add a blanket or take one off, lets live the life we have.
My latest theory is that desalt plants will cause us to use enough ocean water in the long haul to negate the sea level increases Al Bore is so afraid of. Let’s drink our way out of it.
"The greatest tyrannies are always perpetrated in the name of the noblest causes." - Thomas Paine
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. Their very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be cured against ones will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals." -C.S. Lewis.

Scientific investigation shows that Ice Ages are the norm on Planet Ape during the recent past. We will be drinking a lot during the next one, but it won’t be pure water. Lol. And what we have to worry about today, is a dramatic change in weather patterns that eventually led to mile high glaciers moving south. First comes the weather, then many 100’s of years later, comes the glaciers. And then there is the real monkey wrench. The euroweenies and us oligarchs have been conducting numerous black box projects to cool the planet.
My ex-wife would put hot water in ice cube trays and claimed it froze faster than cold water. Nothing I could say would convince her she was wrong. I’m guessing she is an AGW chicken little now.
There is BIG MONEY to be made in the artificial industry of Climate Change Theology, which explains why Business Week whores out its credibility in defense of this indefensible fabrication. They might just as well tell us that hypothermia is actually caused by summer heat - with a straight face and with an expensive “solution” to fix it. Of course the “science” is too complex for all but the Climate Change priesthood to understand. There is always big money to be made from false religions.
To say; THIS IS UNUSUAL... is blonde logic...

it's the same thing as the ebola threat. the media made it seem like ebola was a threat to the USA .now the elecdtion is over so the massive media coverage of ebola is gone.
so global warming is not a threat. the media means to scare the public into acccepting a socialist dictaorship and allow gov to destroy capitalism .that is why they lie and say global warming is a threat. it's not .there is no global warming.
do you believe the media when they say the Earth will warm considerably so much the ice caps will melt , cities inundated etc?
Chelsea says, “Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes.?”
I’m surprised the oceans haven’t boiled over.
: )
The hard left still hasn’t figured out how to boil the ocean : )
“could be”, “confusing”, blah, blah, blah. Why not just say it with conviction instead of couching your worthless document in undocumented and unprovable “science”!?
Well, we completely agree. All I was trying to point out was that there was global warming, and global cooling.
The GW or CC(climate change) alarmists would have us believe that mankind’s input has radically changed the average temperature of the Earth and that it will continue to rise out of control and that CO2 produced by man is the culprit.
As someone else mentioned, we need to concentrate on the actual poisons we put in the air, and not CO2.
It’s not that mankind has not influenced the surface temperature of the planet. Asphalt parking lots, superhighways, downtown in major cities, industrial areas, air coming out of every car exhaust. Heat islands, and in the case of vehicles, heat rivers.
But it is a small effect, and only locally. ONE CLOUD can drop the temperature in a huge area several degrees in just seconds. Nothing we have can duplicate that effect.
The Boiling Lake in Dominica is remotely located, 200 feet deep and straight-up boiling, 24/7. No, it's not "kind of warm" and "really bubbly, so it looks like it's boiling," like a natural hot spring. If you take a therapeutic dip in the Boiling Lake, you'll come out poached. The water temperature at the edge of the Boiling Lake sits at 197 degrees Fahrenheit on average. That's on the shore; no measurements at all have been taken at the center, where the water is perpetually roiling, because, well, would you want to kayak out into a giant cookpot with a thermometer?
