Former Rep. Barney Frank, and CNBC senior contributor Larry Kudlow, debate raising the gasoline tax.

Don’t these Progressive ever go away?
(So shy doesn’t he move to Cuba already and leave us all the *&%? alone?)
IMHO
One of the first things Clinton did was add a 4.3c tax on gas to put in the general treasury. Put that 4.3c back into the infrastructure, then come back to me about a gas tax.
LOWERING the gas tax (and lowering and vastly simplifying the income tax) would be a couple of things WashDC could do to turn the economic free-fall back into an upwards direction again
Dems wasted their time on Obamacare in 09/10 when they could have passed “Cap’N’Tax” and had all the energy taxes a politician could ever want.
And they could have blamed it all on the oil companies....
This is how the government vultures think - more taxes, more taxes, more taxes... ad infinitum.
Then they vote themselves a pay raise for all the terrible difficulties they encounter in soaking everyone else.
Big Government is an addict and money is its drug!
Mass transit-for the masses not Barney Frank!
for 8 years of the Bush term in office, we got PLENTY of revenue fro m gas taxes when Gasoline was just $2.00 a gallon, yet all of a sudden gasoline has shot up to over $3.50-$4.00 a gallon and higher during the peak prices- nearly double what it used to be, meaning double the taxes were coming into the government and states, but now they are running out of money? What the hell did they do with their windfall? They squandered it, and now they want even more to pay for that they blew?
It’s funny that they can’t find the funds for highways, and that they claim SS is running out and seniors and veterans and disabled people haven’t received cost of living increases ‘because there’s been no cost of livign increase for years’ (yet amazingly congress ALL voted themselves massive cost of living increases), but our government can find all kinds of money for ILLEGAL ALIENS AND for TERRORIST NATIONS to send our people’s hard earned money over seas to support TERRORISTS
Our government’s mentality is ‘hooray for illegals and terrorists, to hell with LEGAL American citizens, Seniors, disabled people and veterans!”
Bawney is nothing if not an opportunist. But he is a Dem, so I’m being redundant.
“meaning double the taxes were coming into the government and states”
If you check here:
http://www.api.org/oil-and-natural-gas-overview/industry-economics/fuel-taxes
You’ll see most of the fuel taxes are per gallon, not per dollar
So a rising price does not produce “windfall profits” for govt
Like we couldn’t see something like this coming. Parasitic leeches on society.
> Whats overdue is the LOWERING of wasteful government spending. There is already more than enough revenue to cover legitimate expenses of all kinds but there will never be enough money to fund the endless stream of programs, boondoggles, and bureaucratic waste. Cut the fat!
Find the fraud, cut the fat, and remove the leeches all at the same time.

All you would have to do is give 1 percent of the funds saved to the whistleblowers and chaos would ensue...: )
Spending gas tax money on buses and trains is so gay.
But seriously, it should be spent on roads, and transportation should preferably be the domain of the states.
Where does the revenue from the fuel tax go?
The revenue from the collected Federal fuel taxes are deposited into the Highway Trust Fund, which has several accounts. Though the percentages vary depending on the fuel type, the majority (approximately 83 to 87%) is deposited into the Highway Account, to be used on road construction and maintenance. An additional amount (approximately 11 to 15%) goes to the Mass Transit Account, and for many fuels, 0.1 cents per gallon goes to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund. Some States have similar trust funds, but there are a number of ways the revenue is handled...

Is this the Barney that says he is for the poor and the middle class? Who does he think will be hit the hardest by this tax? Are liberals really this stupid.
He’s not stupid. He doesn’t care about the poor and middle class.
It doesn’t matter WHAT you TAX: EVERY TAX DOLLAR is not available to participate in the economy. Taxing different things is simply progressive behavior modification.
true my mistake
Talk about a sin tax!
