Neurosurgeon Ben Carson stood by his controversial comparison of the United States to Nazi Germany in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday.
Asked by Blitzer whether he would amend or take back his comments, Carson said "Absolutely not."
Carson made the comments during a March interview with conservative news outlet Breitbart.com. He noted that the Third Reich was "using its tools to intimidate the population," and said that "we now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe."
"The point of what I'm saying...is a major fundamental shift of power has occurred," from the people to the government, and "if we continue down that road the United States of America becomes something very different than it was intended to be."

He needs to more clearly focus his comments ON THE GOVERNMENT - so people understand the comparison he is making.
The Nazi's nationalized medicine. They took over the schools and turned the kids against parents. They systematically marginalized the role of parents. They made Christianity appear foolish. They nationalized big business, by allowing private owners to continue to "own", the business, but they controlled it. They took over the media of the time and intimidated and locked up those who would not go along. They made so many laws that everyone was a criminal. The intimidated citizens into silence by threatening their livelihoods or exposing them as a homosexual (which believe it not used to be a bad thing).

I’d amend that: Hitler used the same techniques as American progressives to gain power.
Goebbels regarded Woodrow Wilson’s United States Committee on Public Information (a.k.a. the “Creel Commission”) as the model for his own propaganda efforts.
Dr. Carson showed a boatload of leadership quality by manning up and standing by his original statement rather than trying to walk it back or spin it; this is how he thinks and doesn't try to mask it. Some politicians only talk about being transparent; he practices it.
It's impossible to prevent the liberal media from using your positions against you if you're a conservative. We need a man who will not be intimidated by them.
I think so, they read the book. I know when I read this tome, I was stunned!
I disagree. Anyone conservative that speaks directly to truths of this nation, conservative and constitutional values and a rock solid vision for the country will be vilified anyway. Explaining the problems this country faces is what the GOP is currently afraid of because of the twisted vilification they get by the media. THAT IS THE PROBLEM the GOP has right now. "Welfare, Food Stamps, Housing and Obamaphones don't help the poor improve life for themselves and it certainly doesn't help the country as it is currently managed by the federal government." Can you imagine how a true statement like that would be reported on in the media? Ideologically, Ben is spot on. His unapologetic opinion is genuine and a breath of fresh air. He doesn't care much what others think. He will take on the bashing and is articulate and well spoken enough to take on his critics. He speaks to his own values and most of them match mine.
All that being said, my reason for apprehension about electing Carson for President is different than most here. I read his book. It's very cushy and written in a much different style than he speaks today. The book seems to pander a bit. And it makes me just a bit uncomfortable. The content of the book is great. It's the intended audience and a lot of "Parsing" and "excuses" that seems to bother me a bit. The ideas and message in the book is not as direct as much of his speaking of late. It might be petty on my part. But Mr. Carson is a doctor and as qualified as any other in my opinion. I'll be watching closely.
There are few, if any, who level superficial criticism against Dr. Ben Carson, who in their own right have accomplished as much as he, against such odds.
He is a living embodiment of the American Dream. He is the perfect antidote to the virus spread by the Dark Side. His optimistic, common sense voice will be anathema to the Doomsayers of the Left.
I cheer his rise to prominence and welcome his presence on the national stage. The world and our nation need to hear more from Dr Carson.
At the end of his campaign when he tells us to vote for Mitt Romney since he helped split the conservative vote to enable a Romney victory, the real purpose behind his rhetoric will become clearer IMHO.....
Did you read the article? Ben is refreshingly articulate. Don’t let the media blurbs and context attack influence you so easily. His comparison is factual and accurate.
I will not be critizing conservatives for using the wrong words. That Politically Correctness is a good part of what is killing this country.

Are you talking about Ted Cruze, Mike Pence or Ben Carson. If Mitt Romney is in the primary race, the vote WILL be split. In this way, your argument is bunk.
Yep. Even before I read what he had said, I read that he refused to apologize and walk back his comment.
Right there I knew that was a principled move.
Then I read what he said, and I agree with it. Good for Dr. Carson.
I saw part of that interview (Wolf was asking, “Is Obamacare really the worst thing since slavery? Since the Depression, Vietnam, 9-11?” Dr. Carson ably made the distinction that he wasn’t comparing the magnitude of events, but discussing the lack of freedom over something so fundamental as one’s health).
I understand what he means, and I think he’s right, but in a world of soundbites, all statements like that do is make him seem like a wacko who doesn’t need to be taken seriously.
I didn’t say he was NOT a great man- I agree he clearly is, and I hope he does stay on the center stage.
But I don’t see an entirely different quality called “leadership” in him.
In order to lead you have to have the type of personality that makes people want to follow. Reagan had it in spades. Bill Clinton oozed it from his pores. (although he clearly did NOT deserve it)
Ben Carson is a great man but I don’t see this in him, and his repeated stumbling over conservative comments is troubling.
He was probably a great leader in the medical field where his brilliance led people to look up to him. I don’t see people looking up to him for political brilliance- even though he has expressed great conservative ideals (at times)
No matter how much you ‘earned the right’ to leadership, you cannot get it that way- Leadership ability is like charisma- you have it or you don’t.

Well said. I hadn’t seen him on television before and was very impressed, even more so now that I’ve read a bit about him.
It’s too bad that the media can take advantage of his articulate comments and make him look bad, something that’s easy for them to do (because people aren’t curious or informed about issues).
Well said about Carson.
He should stick to healthcare policy, where he clearly excels.
He is not the man for 2016.
