Obama: Unfair Policing 'Violates My Belief in What America Can Be'

President Obama met with over two dozen people regarding the Ferguson unrest on Monday, including law enforcement officials, civil rights leaders, and young people involved in activism protesting the decision by the grand jury in the Michael Brown case.

“When any part of the American family does not feel like it is being treated fairly, that's a problem for all of us,” he said.

Obama explained that the “most powerful” meeting was one with eight young people who were involved with the Ferguson protests, particularly with those who suffered from what they claimed was unfair treatment from officials.

“When I hear the young people around this table talk about their experiences, it violates my belief in what America can be,” he said, pointing out that the young people of color he spoke to had felt “marginalized and distrusted.”

The underlying presumption here seems to be that cops aren't, to Obama, "part of the American family"

Because every cop I know (more than a few) believes that Wilson got a raw deal even going to the Grand Jury and put under threat of indictment, given the mountain of corroborated evidence (both physical and eyewitness) that use of lethal force in the situation Mike Brown presented to him was reasonable and justified. AND that cops in general have been seriously maligned by how this situation has been engineered for political benefit.

Someone pointed out on an earlier thread the concept of "de-policing" with the specific example of how mass layoffs of cops in Newark NJ several years ago didn't impact the crime rate because the cops there had already checked out.

I am glad to hear that Mr. Pres ent. There are many conservative organizations that were not treated fairly by the IRS during your tenure. An increasing number of people with businesses feel and know they are not being treated fairly. Your Obamacare law is unfairly attacking their faith.
