Government could ease 31-year-old ban on blood donations from gay men
The Washington Post ^ | 11/29/2014 | Brady Dennis

The federal government is on the brink of lifting restrictions put in place more than three decades ago when regulators, alarmed by the spread of the virus that causes AIDS, barred men who had sex with other men from donating blood.

A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel will begin a two-day meeting on the issue Tuesday, amid growing calls from medical groups, gay rights activists and lawmakers to jettison the ban as outdated and discriminatory.

Oh why the heck not...

Western Civilization chooses suicide rather than be accused of being intolerant.
The new Idol of the West: "Tolerance".
A "tolerance" that leads to misery and destruction and a "tolerance" that won't tolerate Christianity. Just great.

Psalm 9:17 The wicked will be turned into hell, and the nations that forget God.

I have been a consistent blood donor for over 30 years, especially since my type is most in demand. I always felt it my civic duty to help out however I could. However, with the government itself putting inclusion, political correctives, and politics above public safety, I hereby resign. I hope when the time comes for these Freaking libs or their partners or children need blood, they spin the HIV wheel and lose.

Bastards all!

They just lie on the questionnaire and donate anyway. I have worked in places where gay men have participated in company blood drives.

Yep you’re correct. It’s stayed in the high risk group (homosexual men and IV drug users) mostly.

The only way to protect ourselves re blood transfusions if this is lifted is to make sure we donate or have donated blood from family/friends.

Why were you banned from donating blood? Why were vets singled out? Thanks.

Time for me to revisit the Blood Bank to see if they will take my O+, malaria & hepatitis (I don’t think the Dengue fever is transferable) tainted blood.

After all, I don’t want to feel discriminated against!

This from the Australian Red Cross. When I had my back operation my surgeon insisted that it was wise to store and use my own blood!

2. Why is this policy necessary if all blood donations are
tested?
The Blood Service has a responsibility to assure the safety of the blood supplied to hospitals. Although all blood donations are tested for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV),syphilis and human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV), there is a period after a person contracts an infection – known as the ‘window period’ – when tests can’t detect these viruses in the blood. This rigorous approach is essential in maintaining a good safety record.Since the introduction of testing for HIV in 1985, there has been one case of transmission of the virus to a patient through blood from a donor in the‘window period’. Although the risk of such transmission is low, we work on the basis that any transmission is one too many.

3. Isn’t this policy outdated, given the work which has
been done to promote safe sex among gay men?
While campaigns have certainly done a great deal to promote safer sex, there is still no such thing as 100% safe sex. Factors such as condom breakage and slippage can contribute to the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Decisions about who can give blood are made
using up-to-date evidence based on patterns of disease in the Australian population.

A few years back, I recall the acronym STD being changed to STI, sexually transmitted INFECTIONS, because DISEASE is just too harsh a word. The homosexualists already changed AIDS to HIV, which is nothing less that stage 1 AIDS. What else can one do but say “check please”?

It’s like deliberately bring Ebola into the states, or the disease ridden illegal aliens.

“FDA realizes that this policy leads to deferral of many healthy donors,” the agency says on its Web site. “However, FDA’s [current] policy minimizes even the small risk of getting infectious diseases such as HIV or hepatitis” through a blood transfusion.

“They really are out of step with the rest of the world,” said Glenn Cohen, a Harvard Law School professor who with two colleagues recently argued in the Journal of the American Medical Association for a new U.S. policy.

Really?

Out of step?
