In the wake of the midterm election defeats, tensions that have been simmering within the upper echelons of the Democratic Party are coming to the surface as the party struggles to find the right way forward in its public positioning, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Several examples emerged this week.
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer publicly denounced Obamacare on Tuesday, saying it was too narrowly focused on the uninsured and should have aimed to assist the wider population of the middle class. On the same day, Democratic leaders in the Senate were caught off-guard when the White House threatened to veto the restoration of tax breaks for businesses that had been agreed by lawmakers from both sides of the aisle. The White House has taken issue with it because it doesn't include provisions to make permanent enhanced tax credits for the working poor.
"The twin developments were among fissures within the party that, at their broadest level, show Democrats at odds over what economic message to present to voters ahead of the 2016 presidential race," the Journal said.
"Worried that they lacked a compelling position in the midterms, Democrats are split over whether to advance a centrist message or a more populist economic argument that casts everyday families as victims of overly powerful corporations and benighted government policies."
Rep. Jerry Nadler confirmed to the Journal that there are splits between the progressive wing of the party and centrists who are concerned that liberal economic policies will alienate mainstream voters in 2016. "You're going to get a fight within the Democratic Party," Nadler told the Journal. "There is a substantial disagreement coming up."

“Now, after 6 years of playing the Blame Bush card, they are eating their own!! Fun to watch them like the rats they are, jumping off the sinking (stinking) obuma ship!!”
Yeah, I guess this lays to rest the notion that the RATs know how to pick up a turd by the “clean end.”
(He's Harry Reid's Bobby Baker.)
They could have had “cap & tax” and “card check”
Instead they chose Obamacare.
Such a heartbreak....
SHEESH! IF nothing else what we are looking at today with Obama flippin’ off our weak GOPe IS the fact there isn’t anyone qualified to lead the Executive Department of our Government amongst the lot of them.
We’ll have to look outside government for someone with the balls to creatively lead us back to the American dream we were deeply involved once upon a time. Ain’t gonna happen with any of those part time heros we see stand up, say the right thing, then sit down, and acquiesce.
I suspect that the Democrat party has simply been taken over by the leftists, at this point. It will take a few elections to give back control to a more moderate bunch of Democrats. As an example, the two main contenders for the Democrat nomination for president in 2016 are Hillary, and Elizabeth Warren. Both are leftists, and Warren is probably more extreme than Hillary. I haven’t heard any talk of a more centrist Democrat being seriously considered.
Couple of decades ago. Bill Clinton was savvy enough to reign it in. And the last moderate democrat was George W. Bush.
Patriots can only hope that the DIMocRATs destroy each other as a viable political force. All of them are condescending, corrupt, dishonest and of low integrity. All DIMocRATs see the public as idiots who need to be manipulated. So-called “moderate” DIMocRATs are moderately anti-American, moderately socialist, moderately anti-life, moderately anti-Freedom, moderately, anti-Constitution and moderately against the Rule of Law. They are all losers. They all deserve no quarter as Patriots struggle to reclaim this Country. There should be no exuses accepted for their continuing treachery.
That happened in 1967, at the DNC national convention riots in Chicago.
This is why I still believe a good Whip in the senate could muster enough dumbocrat votes to get to the magic 67. Never know unless they try.
But where is this moderate wing now? Bill Clinton's Arkansas? That has gone Republican. The Southern Democrat, the most moderate, has been routed. Unions? they are all out of work, and not much of a factor. The remaining unions of government workers, teachers unions, are the radicals. The Democrat party of today is composed of lily white radicals, (Hillary and Warren), and racial voting blocks.
Joe Manchin is about as moderate as they will get and he goes along to get along. To the point he said it would be a sweep for democrats in the mid-terms before ranting after they lost.
Sooner or later you were bound to have friction between the Lenin wing and the Stalinists. It’s getting harder and harder to lie properly.
Pray America is waking
It could happen. You never know. I think if the GOP can peel away enough Democrats then they could override the president vetos.

Thanks, 1968 is the correct year.
I would say the friction is more of a Trotsky-Stalin style rift, but I get your point..
