US Citizens Warned To Stay Away From Acapulco

US citizens have been warned to stay away from the Mexican resort of Acapulco because of the threat from protests over the suspected murder of a group of student teachers.

The American Embassy in Mexico City issued the security message which it said applied to its own staff and all US citizens.

A statement released by the embassy said its personnel "have been instructed to defer non-essential travel to Acapulco, by air or land," and added that it "cautions US citizens to follow the same guidelines".

The alert added that "protests and violent incidents continue in Guerrero state in response to the disappearance of 43 students there."

The protests follow the disappearance of the 43 students who prosecutors say were probably killed by a drug gang after being turned over to them by local police.

Page 1 story in the weekend WSJ:

U.S. raids cartels as Mexican Marines.

(FBI, US Marshalls don Mexican Marine uniforms and help bust drug dealers in Sinaloa State, Mexico.)

Why would any self-respecting American still visit that hellhole anyway?

It seems as a boy, either when born in Kenya, living in liberal Hawaii with its general population not comfortable with traditional America, or in Muslim Indonesia, he grew very comfortable as America-a-foreign-devil. He is doing everything he can to remedy the errors he perceives.

I think he picked up the bulk of his hatred for the white middle class from Jeremiah Wright.

You could not pay me enough to want to visit Mexico. Sorry, but it really does suck south of the border.

Mexico has always been a 3rd world shiitehole. Sadly I don’t ever see it changing. Mexico has gone through at least 3 revolutions and the song remains the same. Mexico should be Canada on our southern border. They have the natural resources, a huge and willing work force, and decent infrastructure. The problem is a culture of corruption that starts from the top. It is ingrained so deep I don’t think it can ever be rooted out.

14 years for me. I suspect their tourist trade is hurting.
Que lastima.
Can you imagine something like that—43 kids taken—happening in this country?

Darn it...I wanted to spend my hard earned dollars in a third world hellhole like Mexico.I guess I’ll spend money in a civilized country, Canada.

Back in the late '90s, my liberal, Pollyanna sister and her left-of-Mao husband bought a vacation place down in San Felipe in Baja. Just LOVED it and the people. Always snarked at me for vacationing with my family, going "all the way up to Canada" when WONDERFUL Mexico was only 50 miles south of us (Oceanside, CA).

Told her that in Canada, we didn't feel like we had a bullseye on our backs and if the cops stopped us for any reason, it sure as Hell wasn't for a bribe. Deer-in-headlights response.

Of a sudden a few years ago, they sold the place, wouldn't say why, and never mentioned Mexico again. They dodged any questions on why they left, so I can only assume that REALITY reared its ugly head.

I doubt the tourist trade is hurting much. I know too many people who still go there. Most of the cruises out of Galveston hit Cozumel. I can remember going to Cancun in the 80s before it got seriously overdeveloped and loved it there. I’ve been several places there. It’s a shame really, such beautiful beaches/places.

I don’t ever want to imagine anything like that happening here. Sickens my soul and my heart breaks for those parents.
