Obama's Amnesty Threatens To Shut Down Constitution
Investor's Business Daily ^ | November 21, 2014 | IBD EDITORIALS

Amnesty: Pundits warn that a funding fight over the president's move to grant de facto amnesty to illegal aliens threatens a politically risky government shutdown. But there's something much more important at stake here.

The Founders had good reason to give Congress the power of the purse: Short of impeachment, it's the most effective way to stop a lawless president from disobeying the will of Congress and usurping powers not granted by the Constitution.

The question is: Will Congress use this power to thwart President Obama's shredding of the Constitution with his executive amnesty plan?

Incoming Senate Budget Committee Chairman Jeff Sessions is on record as opposing any long-term budget resolution that would include funding for this executive travesty. He wants a short-term bill to get us to the point where the new Congress can fund everything except the Homeland Security Office responsible for carrying out the president's amnesty plan.

We don’t need Congress if the President can just make the laws as he sees fit. We could save a lot of money by abolishing Congress. Turn the Capitol into a museum of US history.

I would not be too hasty there Mr. Odumbo, the American PEOPLE have not yet begun to fight. Your days are numbered as leader of this once great land.

It occurs to me that exactly the same part of the Constitution that grants Obama the power to ignore the law also gives me that same power to ignore the law.

Just sayin’...

Thank you for referencing that article raptor22. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

The Constitution was “derailed” by misguided citizens so long ago, the ratificatons of the 16th and 17th Amendments an excellent example, that the title of this thread is basically meaningless imo.

I feel confident that about 1/3rd of Republicans in Congress are Conservative.

I’m confident that about half are Libs disguised as RINOs and the GOPe, and will sell out the country for a mess of pottage.

Turn the Capitol into a museum of US history.

Sounds good. While at it, rename it, and refer to it as The Kremitol.

They’re all leaving for Thanksgiving break. Michelle Bachman asked that we melt the phone lines from December 3rd through the 11th. That’s when they’ll be back in their offices. She’s planning a protest for the 3rd.

If Congress cuts the purse strings what’s to stop Obama from saying he won’t wait for Congress to act, and simply issue an executive order for his administration to spend the money anyway?
