Misreading the cry of rape
The Washington Times ^ | November 19, 2014 | Suzanne Fields

Posted on 11/20/2014 8:42:22 PM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

If Aesop were here he might rewrite his famous fable, replacing the boy who cried “wolf!” with the girl who cried “rape!” The cry of “rape” is used so carelessly that it’s often impossible to get to the truth of an accusation. When rape was a capital offense it was a rare and vicious crime which required a court of law to apply justice. It was underreported, since the rapist usually took advantage of those who felt too vulnerable even to say anything about it.

Contemporary accusations of rape are frequent, often made by women at prestigious colleges whose accusations are often perceived as ambiguous at best. The suspects are tried and convicted in the social media where reputations are ruined on the hearsay of “he said, she said.” Such accusations, on campus as elsewhere, are often factually challenged and convictions in the court of public opinion can be based on emotions, sometimes articulated long after the event. Did Bill Cosby, for example, rape that company of accusers 30 years ago? We’ll likely never know.

Emma Sulkowicz is known as the “mattress girl” at Columbia University, enjoying her 15 minutes of fame as the poster girl of the campus “rape culture,” celebrated in a story in New York magazine, where she is shown carrying what she calls “the scene of the crime” on her back.

Her accusation is simple and graphic. She accuses the man with whom she was having a session of consensual sex of taking anal liberties without permission. She says she said “No” and tried to fight him off with leg action. He persisted. He argues that Emma is a fencer whose legs were strong enough to obstruct him if she wanted. He’s a lightweight rower. Macho man, this “rapist” is not.

Welcome to the mindset of the modern Ameri****. And they wonder why men are either:

1. Not “settling” down.
2. Leaving the country.
3. Importing wife-types.

It isn’t men who watch “Real Housewives”

But I have zero sympathy for Bill Cosby...having publicly supported Obama.

Cosby is no conservative, as some people here think.

Bitter? Not at all, I’m very realistic. Not saying ALL are like that, but a vocal plurality? Absolutely.

“It isn’t men who watch ‘Real Housewives’” No, but one may have to interact with women that do.

“Nice gals are bringing 2 grand over Kelly Blue Book, cause there is a shortage : )”

That’s why imports can/tend to provide a better value, in more ways than one.

Young men are pissed on by most universities. Then they get out and have to deal with indoctrinated itches in real life.
Must be difficult for them.

He did, 100%. But this is about more than black/white/mixed salad/tossed salad, etc.

This is about ANY MAN getting accused of rape DECADES after he goes all in-out/in-out with a woman. That’s frightening.

He also did tell “his community” to put down the fried chicken, get off their asses and be something. That’s Cosby’s real sin here (outside of adultery, that’s between his deity, his wife and him).

If these allegations are false than I do have sympathy for Cosby, no matter who he voted for. Some people are such pieces of crap I wouldn’t mind if they were ruined over BS, Alec Baldwin with his “homophobic” comments for example, welcome to karmatown, Alec. But in this case? No. Cosby has done some good talking sense to his people.

False rape allegations are seriously uncool, just as bad as actual rapes, they ruin innocent men and make women who actually were raped less likely to be believed.

Yes, yes.

Bill Cosby’s getting killed, yet Michael Jackson is sainted.

>> If these allegations are false than I do have sympathy for Cosby, no matter who he voted for. <<

On the flip side, if the allegations are true, Bill Cosby deserves everything he's getting. I have no respect for serial rapists.

That being said, my gut feeling is he didn't do it, despite the scores of allegations out there right now. My gut feeling with Bryan Singer is that he DID do it (the guy always did some kind of creepy gay pedophile vibe, which the media turned a blind eye to because its "hip and cool" to be a big shot Hollywood director that has gay pool parties at his mansion). It really doesn't seem to fit Cosby's M.O. and his 40 year career as a laid back family man type. I have a really hard time picturing him committing these crimes.

OF COURSE there's double standards in the media. The media has already pronounced Cosby guilty (and I wouldn't be surprised if part of that is because they dislike his opposition to the black victimhood card, even if Cosby is officially an Obama supporter and lifelong Democrat). Pulling all of Cosby's shows and stand-up specials BEFORE anything has been proven is in itself criminally unfair if he's innocent. All this talk about banning Cosby just made me go out and watch some of Cosby's old stuff as a big middle finger to the mainstream media. (check out the Thanksgiving episode of the Cosby Show where Cliff has to keep going out in the freezing rain to get eggs, its a laugh riot)

By the same token though, there's plenty of double standards when it comes to U.S. conservative movement as well, and to be honest I don't think we can claim any high ground over the liberal media when it comes to this. One of the most blatant examples I've seen was last year when our side was outraged at the death coverage of Nelson Mandela treating him "like a saint" and pretending he was a beloved flawless role model, then only a month or two later, our side did the SAME THING with the death coverage of Ariel Sharon, and whitewashed his entire horrible treasonous record as Prime Minister, gushing over the man endlessly and hailing him as a beloved heroic saint-like figure for his military service 40 years prior.

>> False rape allegations are seriously uncool, just as bad as actual rapes, they ruin innocent men and make women who actually were raped less likely to be believed. <<

Indeed. One of the most obvious double standards I've seen in recent years is assuming EVERY Catholic priest accused of "pedophilia" is automatically gulity. My pastor knows a fellow priest in Indiana who was ostracized and banned for ministry for five years over an allegation now proven to be false, and continues to be treated as radioactive in public despite all charges being dropped and the accuser admitting he made it up. It's very hard for people to get their life back after they've been in the headlines for months as an "alleged" sexual predator. For too many people, "alleged" means proven.

“...Cosby has done some good talking sense to his people....”

Which is precisely why the Left is going after him so hard.

Clinton “allegedly” did the same thing - with a hell of a lot more evidence than Cos has - but he never went off the plantation.

Cosby was making sounds like a Conservative, and he’s influential, and God forbid people from a major Left voting block might start listening to him.

Smear is effective. It’s war. They know how to use it.

If a court of law proved it true, then the chips fall where they may. But so far - bupkiss. Zilch. Nada. So he’s innocent as far as I’m concerned.

And if it REALLY happened why wait 20+ years? Because he’s RICH? In this day and age of judges auto-siding with women over men in almost situation, you’d think they would have JUMPED out of the woodwork at the prospect of riding the Huxtable Gravy Train.

Jackson never told his people to stop acting like entitled morons.

Cosby did.

Big difference.

So far, it's still legal to simply ignore them. A President Elizabeth Warren might try to change that, but for now let them share their bitter little reality with each other. There is a whole world of women out there who don't think that way. Some of them are even living in the USA - right now. :)

Michael Jackson was insane and didn’t really know right from wrong. I don’t know what to think about the Cosby charges. I hope they aren’t true, but if they are, I’m glad they’re being aired.

IF IF IF he’s guilty he deserves much worse than he’s getting, as the statute of limitations for most or all of the alleged rapes has past, he would avoid prison.

Anyone can vote for whoever they choose but my beef is those like him and Powell who use their fame to get others to vote for Obama.

“Anyone can vote for whoever they choose...”

Hmmm. I’d like to live in an alternative universe where the POTUS ballot has only one choice on it: Ronald Reagan.

Where there are no RATS to be seen anywhere in any capacity.
