Some 63% Want Candidates Elected This Year to Broker Deals With Lawmakers From Across Aisle
Americans are largely pleased with the outcome of this month's midterm elections but have little faith that Republican gains in the House and Senate will prompt the two parties to work more closely to solve the nation's problems, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.
Weeks after Republicans recaptured the Senate and tightened their grip on the House, roughly three-fourths of poll participants said this month's midterm results woul produce "just some" or "not that much" change in a country that most believe has gone off on the wrong track.
The appetite for compromise is strong, a notable change from 2010, the last time Republicans made big gains in Congress. Some 63% of Americans want candidates elected to office this year to bend enough to broker deals, compared with the 30% who want lawmakers to abide by the promises they made in their campaigns. Voters had split almost evenly on the question in November 2010. ...
In a worrying sign for Democrats, Americans want to see the Republican-controlled Congress - not the president - set the legislative agenda. A plurality opposes Obama's decision to act without congressional approval to give new protections from deportation to many illegal immigrants, a policy that he is expected to announce in a televised address Thursday night.
At the same time, Americans support a number of Democratic policy proposals tested in the survey, among them a higher minimum wage and new spending on infrastructure. And 52% think government should do more to "solve problems," compared with the 46% who think govrnment is already doing too much. ...

Rand Paul spells disaster for the GOP. He is going around telling people that the GOP brand “sucks” and basically stating that voters’ opposition to Obama isn’t tantamount to voters’ loving the GOP.
Trying to strike deals with democrats is akin to striking them with muslims. They will lie to you, deal in bad faith, and stab you in the back when it's all said and done. A democrat can NOT be trusted any more than any other criminal.

WASHINGTON — Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn warns there could be not only a political firestorm but acts of civil disobedience and even violence in reaction to President Obama’s executive order on immigration Thursday.
“The country’s going to go nuts, because they’re going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and it’s going to be a very serious situation,” Coburn said on Capital Download. “You’re going to see — hopefully not — but you could see instances of anarchy. ... You could see violence.”

You do know that this is the dominant poll being cited by both the left and the right concerning Obama’s emperor move on illegal immigration?
The one issue that the GOP will have trouble dealing with is the 65% wanting a minimum wage increase. One, because it is supported by concrete evidence in that 5 states (4 red and 1 blue) voted to increase the minimum wage, and two, over 60% in each of those states voted in favor of this.
I actually agree with him.
The problem younger voters and the urban gentry (which on economics is center-right if not staunchly conservative) has with the GOP is the brand, the semiotics and cultural associations, not the policies.
As usual, the problem with polls is the way the questions are asked. Of course most people want the parties to work together - as long it is “the other” guy working with “my” guy. Most people think their party has the right policy, and they want the other party to support that policy. That is their definition of “working together”. But the media’s definition of Congress working together is always for the GOP to come over to the Dem position, so that is how they interpret a poll result like this.
To the media, it is only bipartisanship when the GOP agrees with the Dems. When the GOP position prevails, it is partisan, even when they get Dems to join them.
THIS American will settle for nothing less than heads on pikes and well-attended Perp Walks!

To deal with Democrats is to surrender to democrats.

Politically speaking, yes.
From the Liberal Democrat’s perspective, the conservative republican is an enemy... not an equally valid and meaningful perspective on government.
From the GOP’s perspective as a whole, “getting along” or “peace” is viewed as achievable.
It is not... because the liberal democrat doesn’t want that, and they see absolutely no value in compromise.
Instead, they use the republican’s HOPE for compromise against them... and demonize their actions regardless of outcome.
The GOP will fail until it realizes what it’s dealing with... an opponent party which is directly in line with this nations most dangerous enemies.
I want gridlock.
