WSJ/NBC Poll Finds Americans Want Parties To Work Together

Some 63% Want Candidates Elected This Year to Broker Deals With Lawmakers From Across Aisle

Americans are largely pleased with the outcome of this month's midterm elections but have little faith that Republican gains in the House and Senate will prompt the two parties to work more closely to solve the nation's problems, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

Weeks after Republicans recaptured the Senate and tightened their grip on the House, roughly three-fourths of poll participants said this month's midterm results woul produce "just some" or "not that much" change in a country that most believe has gone off on the wrong track.

The appetite for compromise is strong, a notable change from 2010, the last time Republicans made big gains in Congress. Some 63% of Americans want candidates elected to office this year to bend enough to broker deals, compared with the 30% who want lawmakers to abide by the promises they made in their campaigns. Voters had split almost evenly on the question in November 2010. ...

In a worrying sign for Democrats, Americans want to see the Republican-controlled Congress - not the president - set the legislative agenda. A plurality opposes Obama's decision to act without congressional approval to give new protections from deportation to many illegal immigrants, a policy that he is expected to announce in a televised address Thursday night.

At the same time, Americans support a number of Democratic policy proposals tested in the survey, among them a higher minimum wage and new spending on infrastructure. And 52% think government should do more to "solve problems," compared with the 46% who think govrnment is already doing too much. ...

Summation: This poll, cited extensively by the left and the right on cable news, finds things that are a poison pill for both sides:

1.) Most think that neither Obama nor the GOP will reach across the aisle to each other no matter what the other does or doesn't do.

2.) 48% are opposed to Obama's executive action for illegal aliens (with only 28% supporting this).

3.) 80% + are still anti-bankster.

4.) 65% want a minimum wage increase.

5.) 75% want more spending on infrastructure.

6.) 56% want Congress, not Obama, to take the lead in setting policy for the country.

7.) Barely over 40% want a.) lower corporate tax rates by eliminating many deductions and b.) want to cut funding for the health-care law ... etcetera, etcetera.

Never trust a media commissioned poll on any issue. They are all push polls.

No they don’t.

Americans want nothing to do with the Democrats at this point.

No compromise. When those idiots call with their “reaching across the aisle” utter garbage, I straighten them out right quick.

Let me clarify some of the points made in the poll.

4.) 65% want a minimum wage increase..........until it comes out of their pocket

5.) 75% want more spending on infrastructure..........until it comes out of their pocket

Another poll finds that everyone wants Palestinians and Jews to work together as well.

Problem is, One of those parties wants the other dead.

So... Democrats working with Republicans?... aint gonna happen. Democrats want republicans to agree with them or else.

Problem is, is that 4 red states voted in the 2014 election to raise the minimun wage, with one blue stete voting to do so.

And how exactly will the GOP - with many Republicans citing this poll against Obama’s emperor move - deal with the other parts in this poll that they don’t like?

But when people here produce polls from WSJ, NBC, CNN, etc that are to their liking they don’t say what you are saying now.

Americans are stupid. They simply want the two wings of the single political party to work together so the public isn’t annoyed with the noise of infighting. All these squabbles get in the way of keeping up with the Kardashians, or binge watching a tv program.

The public would be happy with almost anything, as long as they weren’t annoyed with the details.

Confirmation bias works both ways. Best not to trust any of them.

Are you saying this means that the part in this poll which shows that only 28% support Obama’s emperor move on illegal immigration (this percentage cited by many Republicans now) should be also discounted by the GOP?

The elections showed the VOTERS want REPUBLICANS IN CHARGE. Polls for the past YEAR show those polled DON’T LIKE OBAMA.

Polls also show people DON’T LIKE OBAMACARE.

So shove it with your “work together” crap, Wall Street Journal.

quote “48% are opposed to Obama’s executive action for illegal aliens (with only 28% supporting this).”

hm... only 28% support it...

and we know that 13 of the 28 is the support of racist blacks!

which means... only 15% of people who aren’t racist blacks support this move!!!

WSJ wants cooperation between the parties now that amnesty is on the table.

But they'll be howling for a fight when this administration proposes another increase in corporate tax rates.

Hypocrites.

Are you saying that one of the 2 major political parties in the US wants the other major one dead?

If not, then you have used an apples to oranges argument.
