The Washington National Cathedral is a functioning cathedral of the Episcopal Church. It has always puzzled me how it could therefore IN ANY WAY be considered America’s “official” house of worship, as designated by acts of Congress, even if it is privately funded. This seems to strike at the heart of the 1st Amendment, which prohibited any sense of our having a national “official” church.
