Giving up: 40% women, 28% men, 39% youth don't want a job
Washington Examiner ^ | November 14, 2014 | Paul Bedard

Nearly four in 10 Americans, or 92 million, are not in the labor force and now there’s a reason why: They have simply given up and don’t want to work.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the largest group of people not in the labor force are those who don’t want a job, a remarkable statement on the nation’s work ethic. The federal job counter said that 85.9 million adults last month didn’t want a job, or 93 percent of all adults not in the labor force.

...

Pew said that 39 percent of 16- to 24-year-olds don’t want to work, up from 29 percent in 2000.

That will only happen when we cut taxes and regulations for businesses.

Liberals have killed the American work ethic.

************
+1. Well put. Liberals want people dependent on government so they can contol them. Its all about power and control.

Those are great questions.

I do know several families where the Grandparent is supporting the entire younger generations. They live in modest homes with a combination of support from the Grand parent and the Government.

When the Grandparent passes on they will be in big trouble.

..and cut benefits for unemployed, take away the “safety hammock” and replace it with the safety net only.

How are these people who don't want to work supporting themselves?

Government welfare and fraudulently signing up for Social Security disability payments.

Where is the government getting the money to pay for this largesse to the non working?

By borrowing fifty cents fro every government dollar spent.

Not exactly sustainable

Reminds me of the old one about the hippy grad school couple discussing their plans for the new work-day - the girl’s plan is to pickup some free birth control pills and get more food stamps, while the boy has an appointment with a lawyer to file a law suit for slip-and-fall injury followed by joining up at a pay-for-picket demonstration against “the man” at city hall.

Ayn Rand warned us of the “moocher” mentality long ago — 0bama has made it a career path.

There are federal laws making it illegal to feed bears and dolphins. The rationale for such laws is the animals will become dependent on such handouts and become unable to fend for theirselves.

We have 93 million people that do not want to work.

Obama wants to import millions of additional people presumably to do the work not being done by these 93 million.

How will government pay the Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, welfare, food stamps, section 8 housing, and other govt handouts for these millions?

The seeds of our own destruction are being sown!!!!

I know one such person. My ex-wife.

When we got divorced (because she got involved with a younger man), she (and the Court) insisted that I pay for her to attend college and get a nursing degree. So I paid for that for several years.

Once she graduated, she tried nursing for a short time, but discovered working is difficult. So she quit. Now, she does nothing, living off the money she got from the divorce, and gets for child support for our youngest daughter, from me.

Three more years until that is done. I can hardly wait. What she thinks she will live on after that, I am not sure. Probably the money she hopes to inherit from her parents.

Talk about your societal leach!

Well, when a person learns that he can live a satisfactory life without working in a job, what fool would actually want to work? Sheesh!

Giving up finding a job and not wanting a job are not the same thing. There are people who want to work but have given up trying because they cannot find work.

Most likely many of these people do work, just at unpaid jobs like family caregiver, volunteer work or they work in the undocumented workforce (no not illegals) doing jobs for cash.

Part of the problem is what we count as ‘work’.

Doesn’t this number (92M Americans not working) include retired people and housewives?

I recently retired at 58. I sent the feds a huge check to pay our income taxes and right after my brother called to jubilantly tell me he was getting free Obamacare. He has tons of rental property that with a good accountant he can show almost no income but was driving a $90,000 BMW. Every dime of our income is documented so we can’t hide a thing. I said that’s it. I’m not working anymore.

Chip Bok has a great comic on an unemployed guy thinking of getting a job, opens the fridge to see the welfare fairy. The welfare fairy asks what he wants, to which the man says “Food”. Poof, the welfare fairy gives it to him. The man sits down to eat, unable to think of what he was going to do.
If you get your needs met for no effort, there’s no need to expend the effort.
