Violence broke out on the streets of Brussels today as more than 100,000 people marched against EU-enforced austerity.
Water cannons and tear gas were used in the centre of the Belgian capital as riot police tried to bring the situation under control.
Fighting broke out soon after the end of a largely peaceful march organised by trade unions and left wing politicians.
For two hours, the demonstrators had peacefully marched down the main thoroughfares of central Brussels to protest government policies that will raise the pension age, contain wages and cut into public services.
But violence broke out at the end of the demonstration as police fired tear gas and water cannon in an effort to clear the streets. No casualties were immediately reported.

No government can fight 100,000 people up in arms against something. It is not possible unless they nuke the city.
Well the people don’t have firearms. The body count would be higher but they would still win over the govt.
“austerity” = living within their means
My point was that there are few governments on this planet in this day and age that would actually try to stop them with force in a manner that caused a lot of deaths. My “up in arms” comment also has a context of “being fervently committed” whether there are firearms or not.

I don’t want to scare you, but you should google “illegal alien marches” for pictures of those massive demonstrations during the Bush years.
No problem.... I’ve been on travel since Monday, and I have a lot of pent up frustration in having to be silent for the last two days, so I’m probably just ranting and raving too much.
They have guns in Belgium. Not a great gun state, but they have them.

Oh, they’re marching against “austerity”. I thought they were marching against being ruled over by unelected EU bureaucrats for a second there.

What a load of bull. Look at the pics. The protesters are obviously 99% Arab/Muslim.
I wonder what the protest is really about ...
