US Navy SEALs told to stop spilling secrets

The commander of US Navy SEALs has issued a stinging rebuke to troops who have broken the elite force's hallowed tradition of secrecy and humility by publishing memoirs and speaking to the media.

Days after the Fox News network announced it would broadcast a documentary with a commando who claims to have shot Osama bin Laden, Rear Admiral Brian Losey, the head of Naval Special Warfare Command, wrote to his troops denouncing anyone who seeks fame or fortune by revealing details of secret missions.

"A critical tenet of our Ethos is 'I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions,'" Losey and the top enlisted sailor, Force Master Chief Michael Magaraci, wrote in the letter, obtained by AFP on Monday.

"A critical tenet of our Ethos is 'I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions,'"

Is that why the DOD helped the producers of "Zero Dark Thirty" and was the producer of "Act of Valor"? When was the last time this admiral led a life or death raid into a jihadi stronghold?

Where were you, Admiral Losey when the White House gave carte blanche access to your SEALs for his Hollywood donors?

Where were you Admiral when the WH was revealing the details of Spec Ops on the heels of operations?

How many times Admiral have you condemn the insane ROE’s that have caused unnecessary deaths of troops entrusted to you?

You’ve taken the foreign born caesar’s gold and bended your knee, that’s all we need to know..

I'm sure that the Navy Seal will not spill and secrets that the Hollywood crowd has not already made in their movies. Seals are very good at never telling special secret ops. But to learn that the coward King Obama had nothing to do with the operation but took credit is important to me. Shows what we have in this President. Pure shi!

You are a wonderful arm-chair general! The current Admiral earned his Trident, let me guess,,... where in the hell is yours? You and the rest of the gas-filled idiots sit on the sidelines and snark away at men, like the admiral, who have placed their skins on the line time after time. The civilian side of DoD and the other alphabet agencies were the ones who contributed mightily to those movies; if you have a beef, then take it up with them.

I don’t respond that often, but to suggest that the admiral doesn’t know how it feels to go into a life or death scrape is out of line based on his record.

Sorry, if Rear Admiral Brian Losey, can't stand up to the cowardly traitor and unqualified braggart Obama first, then he is a Rear kissing Admiral loser.

Wonder how many Seals are patriots and how many are traitors?

Pretty much impossible to be a democrat and NOT be a traitor..
In deed if not in spirit..

What I’d like to know is WHY Navy SEALs submit themselves to being used as worthless and dishonorable Obama’s personal security detail?
Have they forgotten Extortion 17 ? or Benghazi ? They shouldn’t.
I am waiting for our Armed Forces to start telling these CIV-political morons where to shove it . I am waiting for them to start telling the civ-pols how THEY are going to play it . Break convention? Screw convention.... look at the point to which it has got us. Far more important issues than who writesa book , or finally openlycomes out with a truth we all desire to know .Like who popped bin Laden and what did that feel like ? I want to SEE THE DEATH PICTURES.How badly did we mess him up ? And screw fetid muslim sensitivities , the are not at all ‘ sensitive’ to us . Wait till you see what happened to the 1st allied pilot they get ahold of . Trump has got to dump this whole bevy of Obama era Generals and Admiralds....weed um out real good.

No, but; exposing a unit and their OP or OPS classified TS and/or TS SCI an doing so for personal gain is Obama. Hillary is as bad. SEAL team six and now Delta being exposed is Obama’s BS. Delta is a unit you do not discuss. Many of the SOG guys went to Delta as did some Mike Force legends and Special Projects types.

They should wait until the OPS and all INFO are totally declassified. We said zip about MACV Studies and Observation Group until it was declassified. I refused to tell the VA anything until a MI Captain from the 5th Group told me what I could say in 1990.

I have often wondered about this, why it was even allowed - Fox pundits have made a practice of sensationalizing military stories and the men and women who participated in them are the same as the men who have spoken out or written have put a target not only on their own backs but those of their teammates. Hillary's braggadocio of "we came, we saw, we killed" made me cringe.

Free Republics warning of "Lose lips etc., .. is well taken.

So, it's OK for Obama to blather secrets about Bin Laden so he can take victory laps around the end zone in an election ... but it is verboten for the guys who did the actual work and took the risks to explain their part in it makes their accounts a betrayal of "secrets"?

Did I get that about right?

By definition all SpecOps activities are technically classified.

...the administration has exploited the deeds of the Navy SEALs for its own political gain and rendered any self-righteous criticism to be the rankest kind of hypocrisy.

Losey is being forced into retirement by the current administration. He has no reason to defend them and in fact couldn't be blamed if he was a little vindictive.

I don't think this has anything to do with defending the administration.

You might understand the I am somewhat startled by an August 2016 reply to a November 2014 post. I tried to piece the meaning of it all back together but I am unable to access the original article which seems no longer to be available.

The best I can surmise is that my point was that to decry an activity which is done for money is a criticism which we conservatives ought not to condone. If we are capitalists we should believe in a system that rewards merit with money. This is wholly contrary to the lefts' view of the way our society should work. For example, the left hates the idea that medical services are apportioned according to pay, they want not only to render medicine free but they want to use the delivery of medical services by way of Obama Care to redistribute wealth as well as to heal.

There is a second consideration which is very relevant today in Free Republic. The criticism of Seals who publish accounts of their actions because they receive renumeration for doing so is a point of view that we capitalists should reject out of hand. That is, so long as they do not reveal secrets. But today in Free Republic many of us have fallen victim to a atmosphere of censorship which is unevenly administered and is very unhealthy for this forum and for conservatism as a whole. The analogy to censoring military heroes for revealing nonsecret military matters is to be considered. The value of exposing the Obama administration (my reference to the head of the fish rotting downwards) certainly outweighs any criticism of Seals who publish non-secrets for pay. The reflex to resort to censorship should be resisted except in extraordinary circumstances. This is a view which I have obviously maintained since 2014 and before.
