Heritage experts to decide if bullet holes from Parliament Hill gunfight should be fixed

Bullet damage scarring the halls of Parliament’s Centre Block after the gunfight that killed Michael Zehaf-Bibeau is now being “catalogued” by experts preparing to decide what should be repaired and what should be left alone.

Heritage experts at Public Works and Government Services, the Crown’s real estate and asset manager, are working closely with House of Commons curator Johanna Mizgala assessing the damage “to determine the most appropriate approach to repair and conservation,” said Heather Bradley, a spokeswoman for the House of Commons Speaker’s Office.

Bradley said any damage experts feel compromises the integrity of an object or an area, such that it could be susceptible to further deterioration, will have to be repaired.

MPs have expressed mixed feelings on what should be done with the damage left by the hail of bullets exchanged during the shooting. Some argue the damage is a painful reminder of the incident and should be repaired, while others feel portions of the damage should be preserved as part of the country’s history.

I take it he’s dead? Still, people who plan these things always sort of think they are going to be able to gloat afterwards, not realizing that they will be too dead to gloat.

Nassau Hall at Princeton University (NJ) has a gouge in the the wall where a cannon ball struck in 1777. The British were taking refuge inside.

Battle of Princeton, 1777

I'd leave the pock marks in Parliament, but I'm not a Canadian.

The event is a crime, it's a personal war against society.

It is part the longest running , biggest war on Earth. Islam against everybody else.

Use red patches. And follow that by changing Canada’s arcane gun control laws so that Canadian Citizens can arm themselves.

When I was stationed a Schofield Barracks we had bullet digs in the floors and holes on the outside of the quads from when the japs came through kole-kole pass and strafed the barracks. They were left there, although the windows were repaired. We needed to remember. I expect that they have been fixed recently in the interest of political correctness. Nothing surprises me now.
