Its fair to say discussion got off track about an ordinance proposed by Stuckart that said, no Spokane City officer or employee shall inquire into the immigration status of any person, or engage in activities designed to ascertain the immigration status of any person.
The new law affirms policies already in place in the Spokane Police Department. According to the departments manual, the immigration status of individuals alone is not a matter for police action. Confidence in this commitment will increase the effectiveness of the Department in protecting and serving the community.
The city ordinance passed by a 5-2 vote, with council members Mike Fagan and Mike Allen opposing it, after an hour of heated testimony.
John Ahern, a former Republican state legislator, called the ordinance a sanctuary city bill and warned that it would dissuade businesses from locating in the area.
Once we make this a sanctuary city youre going to see taxes increase, he said. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that.
Susan Bacon, who said she was a nurse, warned that illegal aliens bring dangerous, infectious diseases to the country, including tuberculosis, influenza, leprosy, cholera and scabies.
Im not going to bring up Ebola per se because we know far too much about that, she said.

The city morons forcing the police to NOT enforce the law. No wonder America is so screwed up.
I though Eastern Washington was supposed to be conservative. You could have easily inserted “Seattle” as the city in the title and not been surprised. In fact, that’s how I read it initially.
I didn’t know Spokane was so liberal...
One day, the people that run local governments like this will engineer the murder of citizens who complain. Don’t say it can’t happen. It already has decades ago.
but let your lawn get too long or violate some code...
What about instances that require a SSN or driver’s license? Is that requirement going to be waived for illegals? What if the document looks phony? Can the police press charges? Can they even ask questions? Does their ability to ask questions depend on the ethnicity of the person being questioned?
It’s about getting apples picked.
A few years ago there was plenty of crying because local cops out in Pascoe WA were *gasp* enforcing the law. Gov Fraudoire went ape calling a state of emergency.
Now all those Illegals have moved on to other jobs in construction, food service, etc. The powers that be need the new Illegals to do the jobs that the old Illegals won’t do.
WA State Ping
Baynative, can you help out here? What's with Spokane? I also know that their state reps are lefties also.
The response to this garbage is predictable by employers.
When minorities or favored groups receive special status or protection, employers avoid hiring or calling in these people for interviews.
So in this case, employers will be reluctant to hire Hispanics, especially those with accents or who are not fluent in English. A lot of information can be obtained from an application by cross checking court sites, internet or even briefly talking to these people on the phone before an interview.
My suspicion is that these Leftists are well aware of the response. The idea is to keep minorities on the plantation and angry at employers.
(Damn- just when we we're enjoying looking at property near Spokane!)
I honestly don't get this at all. We have had a strong network of property rights advocates doing a good job of holding the line against liberal environmentalists on the east side. But, as I always point out, the liberals never, never, never go to sleep. When they are slowed on one issue they go aggressive on another until people stand up to them ...then they go back to the first issue.
I'll write some folks and see what I can come up with to share on this.
Locals need to practice their “No entiendo Inglés” to avoid being cited by the cops for traffic infractions.
Oh good grief - keep this in mind your next stay.
Isn't it funny that they fear involving themselves in legal assistance, but have no problem breaking the law to vote?
Thank you!
