Hagan locked in dead-heat with GOP rival in nasty, costly, NC Senate Race

SALISBURY, N.C. – Regardless of who wins, the North Carolina Senate race will go down as the most expensive, likely ugliest contest of the 2014 midterms, with more than $100 million spent and more than 90,000 ads – most of them attacks – aired across the state.

Democrat Kay Hagan is fighting for a second term in the Senate. Six years ago, she famously beat Elizabeth Dole to steal the seat. Republicans are determined to win it back this year and have poured millions into the campaign of Thom Tillis, speaker of the North Carolina House.

Until recently, Tillis remained competitive, but trailed Hagan in the polls. After news broke that she skipped an Armed Services Committee hearing on the Islamic State to attend a fundraiser, Tillis’ fortunes began to improve. Two of the latest polls have him tied with Hagan.

When asked what Hagan’s biggest liability is, Tillis told Fox News it’s the fact she hasn’t done anything significant as a senator.

If Tillis’ complaint sounds partisan, consider this. The Charlotte Observer newspaper, in an editorial endorsing Hagan said: “Kay Hagan has been a disappointment to many voters” and “has done the minimum you’d expect from a U.S. Senator.” The Observer also lamented that she “has a chronic reluctance to take firm positions on controversial issues.”

Still, she has remained more competitive than other Democratic incumbents in Senate races across the nation. Part of the reason is that North Carolina is truly a 50-50 state. In 2008, it went for President Obama. In 2012, Mitt Romney pulled off a narrow victory. Another reason is that Hagan’s campaign – with help from tens of millions of dollars in Democratic outside money -- has pummeled Tillis relentlessly.

Let's see if I understand this: The Hag defeated a RINO 6 years ago, so this year the GOP runs another RINO against her. That doesn't seem too smart to me, but, who am I to question the wisdom and intellect of Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove?

Then why the heck did they endorse her? You know, Daily Newspapers are becoming a thing of the past. (Thanks to the internet.) Circulations and sells of daily newspapers are horrible. I can't wait for the day that there is NEVER another rotten, liberal, yellow rag printed again.

With their demise the Democrats will have lost a big, strong voice. They will have to do their dirty work on the electronic media.

This is a STUPID GOPe Candidate: “When asked what Hagan’s biggest liability is, Tillis told Fox News it’s the fact she hasn’t done anything significant as a senator”. As if we want a Democrat to do anything significant.

This is a SMART Conservative Candidate: “Because she votes with 0bama more than 90% of the time”.

Tillis was not properly vetted. If The Hag hangs onto this seat, Karl Rove and Mitch McConnell cannot blame the Tea Party.

Hagen will have a big problem in about 5 minutes when Project Veritas drops its latest video exposing the Hagen campaign soliciting votes from non-citizens.

I’ve not paid much attention to the race. Hoping for a pickup because we need every seat we can get, and then some. But as for vetting: Tillis is Speaker of the state House. OF COURSE the guy has establishment support. In any other environment, this would be called running your A Team.

US Senate prediction on Bing has Kay Hagan at 77% and Thom Tillis at 23%. This was just update yesterday, while all other polls have them in a dead heat.

Tillis told Fox News it’s the fact she hasn’t done anything significant as a senator.

What he should have said is that she votes with Obama 99% of the time, but he is a lame RINO.

It isn’t, the MSM is ignoring polls showing that the GOP is pulling away.
