Ebola can survive on surfaces for almost TWO MONTHS: (title shortened)

Ebola can survive on surfaces for almost TWO MONTHS: Tests reveal certain strains survive for weeks when stored at low temperatures

Research claims certain strains of Ebola can remain on surfaces for 50 days

It survived the longest on glass surfaces stored at 4° (39°F)

Centres for Disease Control and Prevention claims Ebola typically lives on a ‘dry’ surface for hours - including doorknobs and tables

But when stored in moist conditions such in mucus, this is extended

Survival time depends on the surface, and the room temperature

Virus can be killed using household bleach and people must come into direct contact with the sample to risk infection

Seeing how long it can be kept “alive” doesn’t really translate into the real world very well. For instance, how long does it survive in full sunlight?

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

This is so much WORSE than anybody first thought.

Cold, in and of itself, does not kill a virus strain. Only chemical or possibly biological agents can.

And there is not enough Clorox in the world to do that. At least, not without causing a great deal of collateral damage just from its use.

As anybody who has been paying attention knows, the Spanish Influenza epidemic of 1918 provides many lessons that apply equally well here today.

I am dreading what the real story is behind this virus because without question they are withholding info. Remember, this is an administration that allowed 4 Americans to die in Benghazi then tried to blame it on a Youtube video all because an election, so God knows what they are withholding about this as well. “Oh the election is over...Oh and by the way: We estimate 2.5 million are infected”

For instance, how long does it survive in full sunlight?

Most virus' don't do very well under DIRECT sunlight exposure. It literally obliterates them down to atoms. That is why it is important when you go to the grocery store to pick the cart furthest away from the store, and hopefully at the "front" of the grocery cart recepticle.

The survivability of ebola on surfaces always causes me to think about sweat, a bodily fluid mentioned as carrying the virus, but seldom discussed as a possible source of actual infections.

A person infected with the virus sweats. Sweat dries and the residue remains on the skin, probably until someone takes a good bath or shower. The person touches various parts of the body with his hands and the sweat residue is on the hands.

Then, the residue could be smeared on all sorts of objects: doorknobs, armrests, chairs, tables, most anything people routinely touch.

It’s odd that these possibilities aren’t mentioned more often as a possible means of transmission of the virus. Seems like sweat could be the bodily fluid most likely to be left on objects, or even transmitted directly.

The far north will be the safest place to spend the winter. That means less snowbirds in Texas.

The bottom line is no one truly understands the full scope of the spread of Ebola and really can’t anyway because of the threat of exponential mutation if the virus goes pandemic. It was and still is a tragedy that potential ebola cases are being allowed to fly into the United States. And don’t give me the excuse that HCW and supplies need to have access to hot zone countries. We, the Brits, French and others have our MACs (Military Airlift Commands) and could do the job. We did D-Day and the Berlin Airlift, we could do this. It takes leaders though. .

So we can fly again two months after travel restrictions from affected countries go into effect, if and when they ever do.
