New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio condemned the treatment of a symptom-free nurse quarantined in New Jersey after she returned from caring for Ebola patients in West Africa, saying, “What happened to her was inappropriate.”.
De Blasio’s remarks came during a news conference at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital, where a doctor infected with the deadly virus remained in serious but stable condition Sunday, showing slight improvement. Dr. Craig Spencer had recently returned from a stint with Doctors Without Borders in West Africa, where he treated Ebola patients. Spencer tested positive for Ebola on Thursday.
The mayor spoke during a time of heightened anxiety both in the nation’s largest city and in the governor’s offices of New York, New Jersey and Illinois, with the states ordering medical personnel returning from West Africa to be preemptively quarantined for 21 days -- the longest incubation period known for Ebola.
Even as De Blasio called for unity among local, state and federal officials, he pushed back against treatment of the quarantined nurse, Kaci Hickox, who had returned to New Jersey after treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone.
Hickox took to CNN and to the pages of the Dallas Morning News to say she'd been brusquely interrogated in Newark upon landing. She has tested negative for the virus -- though it wouldn't necessarily be detectable this early -- and is being held in an isolation tent in University Hospital in Newark.
“This hero, coming back from the front, doing the right thing, was treated with disrespect, was treated as if she has done something wrong, which she hasn’t,” De Blasio said.

Spread it far and wide, Democrats believe that someone has the fundamental right to go to Africa, interact with Ebola patients, and have no restrictions to return.

The moon astronauts were paraded in a plastic container. Even if you didn’t see them on the moon by being there with them, you would see their plastic container they were held in while they paraded past you. I am glad that they don’t have anything alive on the moon, we would be in deep trouble if the astronauts came back infected with something that incubates for longer than one week.
Good point. I predict these liberal politicians will be against quarantines and closing borders / flights AS LONG as the US ebola count is low. However should there be an ebola surge in US they would do a 180 and blame someone / something for it happening.
I tend to think you are correct. It’s too close to the elections for this not to look political. And RAT politicians never go against obama so of course Cuomo cant be trusted. Christie will try to use this for “seeeeee, I’m not Obamas friend!” But he will not prevail. It’s a setup. I really don’t care. He needs to go away anyway. It’s just sad that these politicians aren’t doing what they are doing for the sake of the citizenry, but for political points. These are disgusting humans. Every one of them.
I truly believe DeBlasio is dumb. I’ve listened to him and he’s dumb as a box of rocks. Perhaps the first dumb mayor we’ve ever had in a history of corrupt, lousy mayors who whatever their huge failings (manifest) were not dumb.
Send her to the Senate to complain.
What an idiotic statement. She’s in quarantine because it’s an incredibly deadly disease. Believe it or not it really has nothing to do with her. She has to suffer an inconvenience. Well, waaaaah.
