Update at 4 p.m. ET: Hickox Remains In Isolation

"The patient remains isolated and under observation in a climate-controlled, indoor, extended care area in a building adjacent to the hospital," Newark's University Hospital says in an update on Hickox issued Sunday afternoon.

Saying that officials from the federal and state government continue to evaluate her condition, the hospital said a CDC team has visited the site.

"The patient has computer access, use of her cell phone, reading material (magazines, newspaper) and requested and has received take-out food and drink," hospital communications director Stacie Newton said.

Update at 2:35 p.m. ET: Nurse Hires Civil Rights Attorney

In a move that could open a new legal front in the debate over how the fight against Ebola is managed — and how people who have potentially been exposed to the disease are treated — Kaci Hickox has reportedly hired Norman Siegel, an attorney who specializes in civil and human rights cases involving the government. That news comes from J. David Goodman of The New York Times, who tweeted quotes from a conversation with Siegel Sunday afternoon.

"I asked her if she wanted this to be a test case," Siegel tells Goodman, "and she said yes."

Perfect modern day self centered liberal—her right to come and go freely is more important than everyone elses right not to catch a deadly disease.

Next time we go to a dentist or doctor, we should all ask them where they’ve been in the last 42 days.

Freedom of religion only applies to Muslims and we have an inalienable right to walk around and potentially spread an often fatal disease to friends, family and unexpecting strangers. I think I’ve got it now.

if you squint just a little.

I don't squint.

Public health has always been in the power of the States.

The Feds have NOTHING to do with health.

It's a State police power, and as such, the feds have NO say.

No but the feds control international commerce and travel. Therefore I agree that anything on the scale of a potential pandemic is in the realm of the feds. You think for one second the differing viewpoints of various states could coordinate a unified and exact set of rules with respect to containing a potential pandemic? Good luck on that. Let me know how that exactly works out between the state’s of California and Texas

Imagine the legal and cultural chaos to the state when Ebola arrives in our federal and state prisons?

We have a governing class which does not engage in substance, only posture and nonsense if it has a cash back rebate for them.

Yeah, that's what I don't understand. You'd think after seeing all the death that this virus causes, she'd appreciate her own country trying to contain it before it starts. But, I guess I'd be wrong if I thought that.

From a strictly constitutional perspective, you may be right. In the America we live in, which is one of rapid transit, public health policies differing by State will be utterly ineffective at stopping an actual pandemic.

To be sure, the feds have to date given no evidence they’re any more capable of stopping a pandemic, but at least it’s theoretically possible for them to do so.

So in the final analysis it gets down to the old saw about whether adherence to the Constitution requires the country to commit suicide. Or to the words of Jesus about whether the Sabbath was created for man, or man for the Sabbath.

That Constitution thingy really messes with your centralized government meme.

The States do just fine with health on every issue. This will be no different.

Once they get to the States, the potential diseased people need to deal with the States, not the Feds.

And the Feds haven't done a bang-up job of it, if you haven't noticed.

Dr. Brantly tested negative when he first felt sick. But I wonder if she did something to make the second thermometer reading high...

She worked with a fellow CDC colleague to write her complaint - what educated, healthy person needs help writing about what happened to her? She feigns philanthropy for Africans - but not for those whom she would endanger in America.
